Goodbye Gift Fund March 31, 2009

I’ve decided to rename my Gift Fund. It is now just Savings.

I’ll still use it to save up for gifts, but I think by renaming it a Savings account, I feel like I can use it to save up for any sort of purchase I’m thinking of – field hockey fees, a new pair of hiking boots, concert tickets, etc. Anything, really.

So. I’ve decided to get BF’s parents the Planet Earth coffee table book for Christmas. They are both really into traveling and photography, so it’s perfect. It’s selling on Amazon.ca for $25.17 CDN, which is less than the $40 I had budgeted for their present. I can also get free shipping if my purchase is over $39, so I’ll probably buy my sister a book to go along with her main present.

I also decided not to get BF’s brother’s kids anything for Christmas. I still think that I’m going to get his wife something small (maybe) but I doubt we’ll even see them this Christmas, so I’m not that worried.

As for my Dad’s present, my sister and I decided to get him a Blu-Ray DVD burner for his computer. We’ll each put in $75 and then my mom will help us out with the rest.

I sold those Kid Rock tickets this morning for $50, and promptly put that money into my Gift Fund. I just realized that now I’m going to have to budget for 2 wedding presents this year … so I’d better get on it. :)

Goodbye Gift Fund June 2, 2008

Well, I cleaned out my Gift Fund, and now I’m back to zero. But I don’t mind, b/c that’s the point of the Gift Fund. Plus, I’m sure that I got BF an awesome birthday present. I’d tell you what it is, but I’m not sure if I’ll see him before he gets a chance to read my blog. :)

It was our 6 month anniversary yesterday, and it’s his birthday today. He wanted to reach the summit on his birthday, so I wonder if that’s what he’s doing right now!

Presenting the newest sidebar: The Gift Fund April 11, 2008

I decided to open up a savings account for gifts. Just gifts in general – birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, Christmas, etc. Throughout the year, if I see something I think someone would like, I will buy it and save it until their birthday or Christmas … so by having a savings account set up specifically for this purpose, I won’t have to try and rearrange my monthly budget to accommodate these random purchases.

For example, I saw an awesome book I know my sister would LOVE. So I bought it. I probably won’t be able to give it to her until Christmas (her birthday was in March), but now I have it. And I won’t have to panic around the holiday season, trying to find her the perfect gift. I also have about half of BF’s birthday present purchased, even though his b-day isn’t until June.

So, I’ve added Gift Fund to my sidebar. I don’t really have a target goal, but ideally I’d like around $500 by the time Christmas rolls around. That being said, this fund will always have a revolving balance. I doubt it’ll ever just sit with exactly $500 in it, because I’ll be spending as I’m saving.

Also, I’m not going to set up an automatic deposit into this account. I’m just going to throw random money in there whenever I feel like it.
