One of the best things I could have done for myself a few years ago was start to file my own taxes. Instead of spending $100+ to go to an accountant, I took the time to learn to do it myself. And not only is it extremely satisfying, but I’ve learned a ton about how taxes work, including deductions I didn’t even know about.
I’ve actually taken a look at a bunch of different tax software (both free and paid), and recently I was given the chance to check out the H&R Block online tax program – and I really like it. And best of all, the program supports all kinds of tax returns. Even if you have complicated ones – which includes self-employed income (like me), rental, or small business returns.
Here’s a screenshot of what the program looks like once you start:
All you have to do is gather all of your income and deduction slips. Then, the program will walk you through your return step-by-step, pick the forms that you will need, do all of the calculations for you, and check for errors.

I love filing my own taxes. I have been doing this for a few years now and i also help others who are unfornate to pay someone to do theirs and cannot complete them themselves. I would love a have a copy from u to make filing more accurate. thank you!
I take my forms and file at H&R year after year, for the convenience of having it done for me. I’ve always wanted to try and submit my own sometime, but I fear that i might go wrong or neglect to apply a credit for myself. I imagine it would be simple to do, mine would be basic and outright, I would like this year to be the year that I make an attempt to do it, worth a try anyways!
I have been doing my own taxes for years now and actually am a volunteer tax preparer as part of CVITP.
Count me in for the draw :)

I used to use an accountant because I was young and silly and didn’t realize how easy they were online. Now I use online when I can.

I don’t file my own taxes – my dad has been doing it for me (and the rest of my family) forever. But, as part of working towards being a fiscally responsible grown-up, I decided I want to do my own taxes this year, and told him that. This would totally help me achieve that goal! :)
I used this software for my 2009 and 2010 taxes!! I plan to continue with it! It is easy to use and great for beginners too!

this would be great for my taxes
I have always filed my taxes by myself – I can’t justify the cost of a service and I enjoy the challenge. I have used H&R Block software for the last 2 years and will never go back to paper filing. Love it!
My husband used to do both of ours, but since he passed away, I have been using a tax service
My wife has done my taxes for me for the past 15 years!
Doing my taxes since last 5 years!!
Always do my own. Why pay someone else to do something I can do myself?
I complete the tax returns for both me and my husband and have been using paper forms. Software might take some of the pain away!!!
A million apologies, the auto form filler put in an inactive email address for my previous comment, this one is correct. Sorry.
I file my own taxes for the same reasons you do. I really enjoy doing it myself! It’s a nice challenge and I think it would be a waste of money to pay an accountant to do it for me.
Would love to try this out.
I file my own with help from my dad. My taxes aren’t really complex so there’s not much an accountant can add.
I file my taxes on my own and always have. All the information ion deductions and rules is available on- line. I don’t like paying fit tax software as I believe that the government should provide it for free.
