I spent a ridiculous amount of money on going out to eat this week. But there were so many people to see before we leave in a few days. The $135.62 I spent at The Keg was because Nic and I wanted to take my neighbour out for dinner. She’ll be looking after my place while I’m gone, and didn’t want to take money for it. So a nice dinner was the least we could do. :)

Also I didn’t buy groceries, because I’m trying to eat through my freezer and pantry. Which means a lot of weird meals, but it’s saving me money because I’m eating what I’ve already purchased, and I’m not spending money to buy anything new.

* This is all income I bring in that is above and beyond my full-time job. Money is primarily made through my two blogs and my graphic design business.

Just wondering when you count your income – is it as it is earned, or received? Just a little accounting question…….

Awesome week as far as side income goes. You have inspired me to start making public all spending on my blog. I’m going to do it monthly to start and see how it works out.

Your side income is always impressive to me!

You mentioned that your neighbour is watching your place for you; would you consider finding a short-term renter while you are away?

How do you find freelance work?
I’m assuming it’s your graphic business and blogging?

Right now, it’s through freelance writing, this blog, and marketing contracts. I don’t do much graphic design anymore, but I will for the right project. Most of the work I get is through contacts within my network, or people inquiring through my blog. A few times I’ve pitched myself to newspapers and other media outlets, and I think I’ll start doing that a little more often now that I’m a full-time freelancer.

Looks like you’re doing good still of course! And that’s super nice of your neighbor.

    Krystal,

I have been reading your blog for some time and you have inspired me to start writing. I have a question for you though:
Does your boyfriend mind that you post personal finance details on the internet. I am not criticising you for doing this, I admire you for it; I am just conscientious that many other halfs may not like this.

You must be excited about your trip now – looks like you have been making some steady freelance income on the side for quite some time now – Got my fingers crossed for you :)

Thanks for your comment. My boyfriend doesn’t mind that I post my finances online. He knew about my blog before we even started dating, so if he had a problem with it, I know he would have said something at the beginning. That being said, I made sure to ask him if I could refer to him by name (or just as “BF”), and he was even okay with me posting the occasional photo of us.

My personal rule is, if it’s something I even have the slightest feeling that he might not be ok with it, I’ll ask him before posting. :)

Some great results there, you should be proud of yourself.

Wow, I love the way you are being downright honest about this accounting of your spending. You make me take a look at my own spending.

  9. I’m pretty sure you’re the reason I want to get into freelancing. If I could kick even half as much a$# as you do, I’ll be happy! Now if only I could motivate myself to get started…

Wow! $1860 in side income from freelance activities (writing, etc…) in one week!

Is this typical for you in a week? if it is that’s amazing.

It’s my first time here, glad I found your blog.
