Well I killed it with side income this week. I brought in $1,000 and billed out for an additional $1,700. I should also be able to bring in $200-250 in ad revenue this month. My goal was to destroy September by making $3,000 in freelancing income, and I feel really good and on top of things so far. Gotta keep the momentum going for the second half of the month! But while I did do a lot of writing this week, I also made time to have fun.

On Monday, Nic and I came back from an amazing long weekend on Vancouver Island. He met my family and friends for the first time, which is always a bit nerve wracking. But everyone seemed to really like him. I think he won them over with his endearing French charm.

On Thursday I met up with Preet Banerjee (a finance writer for the Globe and Mail). It was awesome being able to talk about personal finance and freelancing with someone, especially because he’s way more accomplished than I’ll ever be. Great to learn from someone like him. :) We’re starting to put our heads together to collaborate on something very cool, so stay tuned.

As for the IKEA expense, Nic and I went there over the weekend to work on my lighting situation in my home. I ended up buying a big light fixture for my bedroom (don’t have a ceiling light), as well as a desk lamp (one of my September goals!). Pricey, but it needed to be done. I need to buy a dimmer for the big light fixture, which I can pick up at Home Depot for around $10.

Finally, I had my first field hockey practice and game of the season. It was fun, and while I’m a bit rusty, I’m not as tragic as I thought I would be. I also had two very important observations over the weekend: 1) you know you’re old when you’ve been playing field hockey longer than any of your teammates have been alive – true fact, and 2) field hockey skirts are way, way too short these days. That is all.

This is all income I bring in that is above and beyond my full-time job. Money is primarily made through my two blogs and my graphic design business.

    Nice additions to the household!

RE "getting old" You know that you're really getting old when
    1) you remember playing with their parents and can recount stories of their parent's bad behaviour
    2) you start using the phrase "When I was your age…."

  4. Nice! :) If you have nexus, you can go down to Bellingham to get the lights for your light. You can get the energy saving light bulb for way less price in the States than here! :)

BF and I bought all our energy saving bulbs and dimmer in the States! :) Plus you can fill up your car with a tank of gas! :D

OOOH…..did you preorder Ryan Adam's Fire and Ashes from Pax-Am? I want to do that soon so I can be entered to win the 7 vinyl singles.

    • Krystal Yee says:

OMG I sure did. Really excited for the album (the 2 singles I've heard sound great), and the bonus t-shirt that comes with it too. Are you able to see him in concert during this upcoming tour? /end geekout

      • Dre says:

        @Krystal Yee:
I like the Cardinals but Ryan Adams solo stuff, in my opinion, is so much better! I live on the East Coast of the US so he is not playing even close to me. If he extends his tour dates I will be there. I have been to 3 amazing shows. I want the shirt too!

        • gmbmfb says:

Well I am deeply in love with Cold Roses, but I can totally understand where you’re coming from. I think his solo stuff is more authentically him. Was never a fan of Neal Casal either. I’m headed to the Seattle show near the end of October, so will be sure to post a recap of it, and take some pics. Here’s hoping he comes your way too!

Hey Krystal! It was great meeting you in person. Have a fantastic time at FinCon. Bring mace.

Props on the side hustle! As a side road, I LOVE Silk Road Tea…and their packaging is too cute.
