Okay, before you start to think that I’ve lost my mind by buying business cards being super expensive, well, I think the cost is justified. After literally doing weeks of research, I ended up going with a local Vancouver company that specializes in thick stock paper. This is 24 pt. card stock, people. Most business cards are printed on 12 or 14 pt. card stock. Double sided, full colour. The only thing missing was the embossing/debossing that I really wanted, but couldn’t justify spending more money – the quote I got from a couple of other companies was over $600. I don’t think so!

So, yeah, it was an expensive week. Aside from my business cards, I bought my once-a-year supply of Skyn face cream from Sephora, and went to Vancouver Island with Nic over the long weekend. From my original $375 budget for the trip, I think I might have gone slightly over, but I don’t think I spent over $400. I’ll tally up the money spent and let you know.

And finally, I brought in an okay amount of freelancing income this week. I really struggled with writing an article, and I think that slowed down my productivity. I even had my laptop out at the beach in Tofino, trying to write it. Here’s hoping that this coming week is easier!

This is all income I bring in that is above and beyond my full-time job. Money is primarily made through my two blogs and my graphic design business.

I just ordered business cards for my blog as well. I got a deal since I know the owner of http://pressinkllc.com My grandmother always used to say that it takes money to make money and I agree. However, every investment should have a ROI. (rate of return) I think what you spent was reasonable, even more so if they helped with the design. Your business card speaks a lot of who you are. You could have just went with VistaPrint.com and selected free business cards. Would they work? Absolutely. Would people think differently of your business? Most definitely. As far as your face cream goes, it is what you like and what you want. I don't see an issue with it. I really don't see an issue with anything someone buys with cash as long as they are debt free and are saving at least 15% a year for retirement. You just have to balance enjoying your life with responsible spending. Cheers to you. Well done!

oh i love SKYN! good stuff man!
So when will you quit the 9-5 job? or go at it part time – your freelancing is going to bring u home more money than that job.

Ahh, I don't know if I'll quit my 9-5 job. Right now, I think I can live off of just my freelancing income, but I'd have to sacrifice a lot of my savings goals, as well as traveling. So, maybe in time when I'm more stable as a freelancer I might look down that road. It's also hard, because I really like my full-time job.

I'm getting a visual of you doing a remake of American Psycho with Christian Bale. There is the scene where a group of lunching businessmen bring out their business cards during a lunch and compare…. hilarious… Well at least until lunch was over then not so much. You could have changed the outcome of the movie I'm sure. Thrown him a few financial tips…

Are you deducting taxes when you report side income?
It makes the cashflow almost always positive, but only if you actually remove the income taxes.
