Whoa, expensive week! But I did finally accomplish one of my August goals of setting up my work space “nook” in my townhouse. In case you missed my random Friday night tweets, here’s all you need to know:
Yeah. So Friday night I decided it would be an awesome idea to go to IKEA. (Note: going to IKEA by yourself when you have a lot of heavy things to buy and cram into a small car is NOT fun). Then, I went home, drank some beers with a neighbourhood friend, and proceeded to put together my purchases: a desk, matching drawers, and two bookshelves. All wrong. Every single piece I put together was wrong in some way. I went to sleep surrounded by my IKEA nightmare. So I spent the better part of Saturday taking apart my mess and putting it all back together again.
Saturday night I attempted to go to the fireworks. But we got a late start, and ended up only getting glimpses of the fireworks from a Chevron parking lot. FAIL. So we went to a pub and ate food instead.
Sunday was a really lazy (yet fun) day. It was basically spent roaming around New Westminster (Antique Alley and the River Market that didn’t seem to exist quite yet), lunch at the River’s Reach Pub, and a really lame attempt at trying to write in the late afternoon. We ended up watching cartoons and playing Jenga instead. I did bake a loaf of bread, so at least that counts for something. Well, I mean, my bread maker baked the loaf of bread.
* This is all income I bring in that is above and beyond my full-time job. Money is primarily made through my two blogs and my graphic design business.

Hahaha. That is too funny. I'll remember not to drink beers when I put together IKEA furniture. Oh, wait, the IKEA nearest to me is over 1,000 miles away. Nevermind.
IKEA, please come to Kansas City.

oh and can we get some pictures of your nook please?

Yes! I will post pics of it for sure. This week probably.
Furniture from Ikea is HARD to put together. They make it look so simple with 5 diagrams and absolutely no writing. I don't buy anything there anymore… too frustrating. Can't wait to see you set up though!

I don't mind putting together the furniture. Sometimes it can be really fun to try and decipher what they're trying to say in the diagrams, hahaha. But you get what you pay for. The stuff is cheaply made, and definitely not "forever" furniture. But it's good for now, while I'm on my own. Will post pics soon!
Soooooo funny. I'm actually sporting a second degree burn from my IKEA assembly last week. I wasn't drinking though, so I don't have an excuse. I was assembling the expedit 5×5 bookshelves by myself, and the final step is hoisting it up from the ground so that it stands upright. Note to self: make sure chandelier is sufficiently out of the way when doing that, or else your forearm will touch the hot exposed bulb which has been on for hours, and you will get a burn the size of Manitoba.
OMG I remember when I first moved to Vancouver, I had to assemble that Expedit 5×5 bookshelf by myself too, and it nearly destroyed me too. :(
P.S. I like your chandelier. I need to get some sort of fancy/nice light fixture for my dining room too!
Thanks! Mine I bought for $50 from someone who had bought it at IKEA. Canadian Tire has some pretty pieces, so does Home Depot! Most are around $100 … which honestly, isn't too bad, considering that it's such a statement.

LOL I've put Ikea furniture together drunk before but I have a little disadvantage since I use to work there. The instructions are ridiculously funny….

I have that bookshelf toooooooooooo! I also put it together myself. No chandelier in my way tho but I barely survived nonetheless… thankfully I came home and my dresser had been miraculously assembled in my absence (my father snuck in and did it for me :D)

Hahaha, that's awesome! What a nice dad you have. I went to bed hoping to wake up with all of my furniture assembled for me. No such luck for me, unfortunately! :(
What kind of blender did you buy for $61?
It's an Oster brand? I bought the same one last year, and it's pretty decent, considering how cheap it is.
How was River's Reach? I think I have a coupon around here somewhere for lunch there.

I personally really like the River's Reach pub. It's my go-to pub in New West. The food is cheap and tasty, and the patio is good for people watching.
Whether or not the furniture went together smoothly, you probably had 147% more fun doing it.
