Goodbye, Vegas!

Sorry for the sporadic posting. I thought I’d be spending most of the last few days holed up in my hotel room, catching up on work. But it’s been a pretty fun trip. As soon as I got to my hotel on Tuesday night, I didn’t even have time to go up to my room before I was in the bar drinking beers with the sales guys. Because I try to keep a bit of a dividing line between my work life and my personal life, it’s always such a great experience getting to socialize outside of work hours with co-workers. And it usually only happens during trade shows.

Last night, we went to a French restaurant at the Paris called Mon Ami Gabi. The food was amazing, and after that we grabbed some drinks and headed to the New York, New York roller coaster. There’s no better team bonding experience than hearing the VP of Sales screaming like a little girl! Myself and another co-worker could not stop laughing during the entire ride.

So far, I haven’t spent any of my own money. Everything has been expensed, and I haven’t even gone gambling if you can believe it! Before the trip, I thought Vegas would be a bit boring, but since I actually only got two full day here, I wish I was staying over the weekend too! There’s a Bob Dylan concert on Saturday, I’d like to hit up Freemont Street, and also try out a few restaurants that everyone seems to be raving about. Oh well. The conference next year is being held in Orlando, so I’m not sure when I’ll be back next. :)

Oh, and you know how I had wanted to run/hike at least 100km this month? Well I am happy to report that at the midway point of July, I’m currently sitting at 54.5km so far. As for improving my 5km time, my best time so far this month is 24:41, and I know I could have pushed myself harder. I have a bad habit of starting off way too slow, and then trying to make up for it near the end.

Also, my property tax cheque cleared out of my bank account. Goodbye $931.61. I wish I had gotten to know you better.

I enjoyed Vegas, but while I initially went because I heard it could be a cheap vacation, it ended up being one of our more expensive trips because we ended up wanting to do a lot of the, well, more expensive things. Like taking a helicopter ride over the city (my husband is a photographer). All in all it was worth it, but in the future, I'd make our trip shorter. (the Forever 21 there greatly increased my wardrobe – I've been spoiled for all the Canadian Forever 21s now)

  3. I went to Mon Ami Gabi too, a friend recommended it to me and it was delicious!!

    I miss Vegas ;)

You know, I thought my Vegas days were behind me, but being back there again reminded me of how fun it is! So much good food, people watching, and things to do. Not sure when I'll be back, but will eventually get there again. :)

I'm going to Vegas in a couple of weeks – super excited, although I rarely drink or gamble! I'm an Aussie and it's my first trip to the US – have 5 days in Anaheim, 6 in LA (including a few days at UCLA to do some research for my PhD) and then a week in Vegas – mainly to go to a Star Trek convention! It's going to be a struggle to resist the shopping, but our dollar is so strong and the moment I will definitely be buying a few things – including some new sneakers as I'm just starting to get into running.
