A Tuesday update
Lately it seems as if my worlds have been colliding, and it’s all been happening on Twitter! My real life friends have been connecting with my PF blogging friends, my sister has been chatting with a boy that I’ve been seeing, and I’ve also randomly met a neighbour on Twitter who lives a few doors down from me. It feels weird to be so connected, and to see those connections happening right in front of me is kind of crazy. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum, I went and met a colleague over the weekend who was still using dial-up internet up until a few weeks ago. Dial-up! I didn’t even know that still existed.
In travel-related news, I leave on a business trip to Las Vegas today and will be back on Friday. I’m glad my co-workers and I are staying off the strip, because I plan on keeping my spare time pretty low-key by eating multiple In-n-Out burgers, running every morning in an attempt to burn off the calories, and trying to catch up on some reading and writing in the evenings. :) I do have a friend who said he will be rolling through town at some point during my trip, so I’d love to grab drinks with him one evening. We’ll see!
As for my freelancing, I had a project kind of fall apart during price negotiations. I’m disappointed. I wanted closer to $1,000 and they were only prepared to offer $400. Normally I would try to negotiate to a price in between, but they weren’t willing to budge, and I wasn’t about to sell $1,000 worth of my time for less than half that. Which is too bad, but that’s life I guess.
On a more positive freelancing note, I’ve finally redesigned my online portfolio. Well, the landing page, at least. One of my goals for July was to figure out what my visual identity was going to look like (so I could print my business cards), and I finally figured it out. The website still needs some tweaking and I need to build the pages out, but I’m somewhat happy with the feel. The design might not be that great, but I’m not that great of a designer, so I think it captures who I am pretty perfectly. :)

Good for you for sticking to your guns about your cost for freelance work. I am guilty of giving people a deal and then regretting it the whole time… Then when better paying opportunities come along you have to turn them down because you have your dead beat project eating up all your time.
