Well the big expense this week was my trip to Mountain Equipment Co-op. I bought some much needed hiking supplies – a backpacking stove, cooking pot, fuel, water bladder, water purification treatment, and a hiking book. Now all I need to do is buy a tent and a first aid kit, and I’m good to go (I think). I’d ideally want to get a handheld GPS device as well, but that will take some research before I even think about buying. My goal is to go on a multi-day hike this year, potentially over the August or September long weekend. There are a couple of hikes I feel comfortable doing solo if I can’t convince anyone to give up a long weekend. :)
Other than my trip to MEC, the week was basically normal. I got 4 pairs of pants altered by taking them all in at the waist, and 2 of them I had hemmed shorter as well. Because I’m on a shopping ban, I can’t go out and buy new pants, so I have to work with what I have. And really, I don’t think $50 is a bad price to pay considering it’s not exactly easy to take pants in at the waist.
On Saturday I went hiking in Squamish. It was nice to get in a leisurely 4 hour hike with great weather, and the views were fantastic. I’ll leave you with two photos. The first one is of the hike itself (Squamish River Valley), and the second one is the post-hike meal. Which successfully proves my theory that you can serve Kraft Dinner and beer to a man on a date without getting laughed at. Take that, fancy expensive dinners!
* This is all income I bring in that is above and beyond my full-time job. Money is primarily made through my two blogs and my graphic design business.

Just wanted to say be careful when you are hiking (not that you are not careful, and not that you need a complete stranger to tell you LOL). I've been reading on the CBC website about those bear attacks in BC this week. Scary. I know they were most likely cases of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and I guess it never hurts to be on the lookout.
Thank you for your concern! :) Black bears are generally okay, I'd be more scared of the grizzly bears. But not to worry, I usually hike with someone and I have a huge knife that I carry around. And I always make sure to check the reports online before I venture out.
What a gorgeous place to go hiking! Lucky you. :-)
