Some of you may already know (via Twitter) but…

Give Me Back My Five Bucks has been nominated for Canada’s best personal finance blog for 2011!

So hello to all of the new visitors coming in from the Globe and Mail article. :)

For newcomers, here is a brief summary of me and my story:
I am a 20-something personal finance blogger from Vancouver, BC. I am a former shopaholic who had over $20,000 in student loan and credit card debt by the time I graduated college. I was confused and lost when it came to figuring out how to get myself out of the mess I had created. So I turned to the internet, and started reading personal finance blogs. With a lot of hard work, determination and mad budgeting skills, I was able to eliminate all $20,000+ worth of debt within 12 months of graduating. Since I started my personal finance journey nearly five years ago, my net worth has gone from -$20,000 to +$62,000. That’s a difference of $82,000! Over the past few years, I’ve also met some incredibly motivating bloggers and readers who have changed my life, and hope to continue my journey towards financial independence on this blog.

This past fall, I started writing a personal finance blog for the Toronto Star (Moneyville.ca) called 20-Something & Change. There, I try to write helpful, relevant articles for the 20-something crowd. Here at GMBMFB, I discuss my own personal finance issues, frugal living, saving money, goals and aspirations, real estate (for the first-time home owner), and I also love to post detailed spending reports, budgets and spreadsheets. I always say that GMBMFB is like my online personal finance diary. I don’t shy away from the issues that really matter to me, and I love when a discussion can evolve out of it.

I’ve never been nominated for anything like this before, so this comes as a huge surprise and I’m so honoured to be mentioned along side personal finance superstars and people I truly admire, like Gail Vaz-Oxlade, Ellen Roseman, Canadian Capitalist, and Mike Holman (MoneySmartsBlog).

A special thanks to Kerry Taylor from Squawk Fox and Preet Banerjee of the Globe and Mail for nominating this blog.

Please take a few seconds to vote for me!
