Random Friday Thoughts

  • Today is the end of Week 1 of 52 for my lunch challenge. I did pretty well this week, packing a veggie sandwich and orange from Monday-Thursday, and today I will have pita & cucumber with hummus, and an orange.
  • I absolutely cannot wait to meet up with Asian Pear, Ginger, Melanie and Money Rabbit next weekend when I am in Toronto on a business trip. I will also be meeting my Moneyville editor for the first time, which is exciting too!
  • Speaking of business trips, in 6 weeks I am also headed to New Orleans for 3 or 4 days. Because my schedule will probably be super busy, I am seriously considering taking 2 or 3 days of vacation and staying a bit longer so I can explore the city. My mom is thinking of flying down to meet me there. :D
  • And because my trip to New Orleans inconveniently coincides with my booked trip to see the 2011 Heritage Classic (Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens) outdoor hockey game, I now have one extra ticket to the game for sale. Anyone interested? Seriously.
  • Just received a small design contract for $200 from an existing client. I will need to ramp up my design business a little bit if I intend on achieving my 2011 goal of making an extra $25,000.
  • I need to stop browsing the homes on MLS. We won’t be able to buy until the end of the year, so I don’t know why I’m torturing myself!
  • Over the Christmas break, BF and I played Scrabble with his family. But instead of using the traditional game board and pieces, we played with an iPad synced with 3  iPhones. Technology just blows my mind.
  • BF and I bought a blender last week, and now every morning I am making a smoothie for breakfast (about 400 mL or 14 oz). Usually I drink half of it for breakfast, and the other half for my morning snack. 1 cup juice, 1/2 banana, 1 cup frozen mixed berries, 3 tablespoons of yogurt, and a handful of spinach!

I hear you about MLS! Looking at houses can definitely be addicting. I do it from time to time even though I'm not in the market. It's fun to dream isn't it?

ahhh i do the MLS thing (and go to open houses in my neighbourhood!) all the time. however, now that i'm watching friends house hunt in the entry-level buying market and seeing HOW many places they lose in bidding wars and such, it seems like all the house worship torture i'm doing now will prep me for all the heartbreak that comes when i will try to buy (within next.. 24 months.)

also, spinach in a smoothie is the BEST ever!

You go to open houses too? That's hard core!! LOL I can't tempt myself like that, otherwise I think I'd go insane. A lot of my friends are looking to buy too, and just hearing their struggles makes me more prepared for when I have to go through the same thing. Not to mention watching lots of property shows on TV (Property Virgin, House Hunters, etc).

DH and I went to open houses for a couple of years before
we were in any position to purchase a home. It was a good thing we
did because it gave us an idea of what we wanted and didn’t want in
our future home, even though we thought we had a perfect home in
mind. Oh and definitely consider turning your NOLA trip into a mini
    holiday. The city is amazing!!!

So excited to meet you too!!! And it’s good that
you’re looking on MLS, you’re educating yourself
about the market and as such will be able to set realistic
expectations when it comes time to buy!!! I like that
you’re challenging yourself to pack lunch for the whole
year. I would like to get better at this. I did pack my lunch all
week long, but last night I caved at the thought of making dinner
by myself so I went to McDonald’s. Boooo. My recent post

I'm a year or so away from buying a home, but I keep looking at MLS… it keeps the prices top of mind, and helps me see whats really out there. Just keep looking!
