Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour

Confession time. I just spent $98 on a ticket (after Ticketbastard fees) for the Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour Cirque du Soleil show that’s happening in November 2011. My friend had a pre-sale code, so we snagged the least expensive seats available (there were $65 tickets, but were sold out already). We both anticipate the show selling out immediately when the tickets are released for general sale.

I can afford it, but I didn’t need to go. Still, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I know I would be very disappointed if I missed out. And just to show that I do actually have will power when it comes to concerts, I will not be buying tickets to see the Backstreet Boys/New Kids on the Block upcoming tour. But only because I saw the Backstreet Boys live in concert 2 years ago. :) AND I didn’t even buy tickets to the Donavon Frankenreiter show that’s happening in November, even though I had such a blast at the show last year – including backstage passes and meeting the band.

Would you have spent $98 to see the Michael Jackson Cirque show?

Er, Michael Jackson is dead. Why would you spend money on a Michael Jackson concert?

This particular show isn't my bag, but I'm going to Wicked on Sunday, and that cost about $150. I can't wait! I love Broadway style musicals. So, I would spend on concerts/theatre, just not Michael Jackson in particular.

  5. Heh! I love the Backstreet Boys, but I miss their concert TWICE! :( I am waiting for their next upcoming concert with New Kids on the Block and maybe with Hanson as well! Can't wait!

The Michael Jackson show looks awesome, but I think I'll save the money for BSB :P

Have you ever been to a cirque show before? I went to my first one a couple of years ago, and my mouth was hanging open through most of it–it was AMAZING. I would not regret getting tickets at all.

I've seen their small arena show a few years ago which was less acrobatics and more acting and magic. This show will be a much bigger production with lots of acrobatics, dancers and everything, so I'm really excited to see the crazy things they can do.

I'm dying to see a Cirque du Soleil show! I think if I were in your position I would take advantage of that too! Also if I were in your position I'd go to the Backstreet Boys as well.

Funny, I was going to "confess" on my blog too that I just purchased Russell Peters comedy show tickets for $60 a pop. *insert guilty frown here*

I plan on going, but don't have the money to buy tickets right now. By the time I do, it will probably be sold out. I am however, going to buy tickets for the NKOTB/BSB mega concert.

I would definitely spend the money. I plan to buy when they go on general sale since I missed the presale. Cirque du Soleil is amazing and I don't doubt the Michael Jackson show will be just as stellar.

Why is this a financial blog? You should have this by a "I like to buy lots of stuff and claim I know something about finances and that I don't spend any money blog"

    Michael Jackson … really???

    Not at all financially sound.

What are you talking about? Of course this is a financial blog – She's paid off her debt, she's on a savings plan, which she writes about, and is now writing about balancing her wants with her savings goals? How could this not be a financial blog?

Krystal, I'm so jealous! I want to buy tickets but I don't know if I'll be on the west or east coast then!

I heart MJ. My friend and I almost bought concert tickets to see him in London… Yea, that's right. And it would've been worth every penny.

We briefly discussed this on Twitter and I was super excited, but I have decided not to get tickets for this. Edmonton is the closest show to me, and with the cost of tickets (for two), gas, hotel and food, I am looking at spending $500 – not cool! We are planning a trip to Vegas next November and I would rather save the money for that (and see Cirque there), or put it towards NKOTBSB tickets (assuming they come to Calgary!)

Saw the show yesterday and was very disappointed. Essentially a concert with only backup dancers and pre recorded Michael Jackson songs. Barely enough Cirque du Soleil acrobatics, which is the very foundation of their success.

How Cirque du Soleil was ever associated with this production is beyond me. Go if you’re a die hard MJ fan and want to see something trying to be sentimental of MJ’s legacy over time. Otherwise save your money and check out old archive MJ youtube videos.
