It may seem like a lot, but it’s not that bad. We hadn’t bought groceries since September 17th, and we won’t need to buy anything (except fresh produce) next week either. Our goal is to have a big grocery shop every 2 weeks, and during the in between weeks, just buy produce. We’ve been doing it for a while, and it actually does bring down our overall grocery budget. We both really want to cut down on our meat intake, so hopefully we can chip away at the grocery budget in the coming months.

Also I do regret getting the pizza. It was going to be our treat for the weekend, since we weren’t going to have a big Thanksgiving dinner (we were planning on going hiking instead). But with the bad weather, and BF needed to go back to the island to do some work on his Jeep, we made a very last-minute decision to make the trip over. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner prepared by my mom. I’m glad that we went because we had a great time, but had we known, we definitely would have just made dinner at home instead.

As for my gas consumption, my current commute is about 75km round trip each day. It is torture. But my office is moving to a new location in a few weeks, which will reduce my commute by 20km round trip each day – or 100 km each week / 400 km each month – and that’s almost 1 tank of gas in savings. Plus, instead of a 2-3 hours round trip, I’ll be looking at 1.5 hours instead. :)

I don't envy your commuting times in Vancouver! I grew up in Toronto, which isn't much better, but now live in rural Ontario. My commute is 50 kms round trip and it takes me about 40 mins. I have considered taking a job that is basically 2 hours a day round trip, but I am not sure that I could keep that up on a consistent basis.

  7. Ugh 75km? Glad you're able to reduce your travel time. I commute about 20 minutes to work and I already cringe at that. I think when I sit in traffic, my soul slowly gets eaten away. If a car is moving fast through traffic, that's fine, but sitting in traffic is what drives me crazy.
