BF has convinced me to shell out $309 for an early bird ski pass to Mt. Seymour (that’s 60% off the regular price). At first, I was completely against the idea, but I know I’m going to be upset with myself and super jealous come the winter when BF goes off to ski 2-3x/week, and I can’t go. Cost-per-use for the pass will be completely worth it, because this year I won’t have to shell out any money for gear. I have everything that I need.
Previously, we’ve split the cost of my pass since he gets his for free. This year we won’t be able to, but that’s okay. $309 is a bit cheaper than my pass to Grouse last year ($355), and we barely went skiing because the weather was crap. We ended up having to drive up to Whistler (and pay ridiculous amounts of money), or out to Manning Park. Fingers crossed this year that the skiing will be better, although I don’t see how it could get any worse!
The $309 will wipe my Savings Fund out, but that’s what it’s there for. And I know it will be worth it. I heart skiing.

Can you give some recommendations on ski gear – what's worth the $$ or not? I also heart skiing, but living in Southern US means we only go once a year. I hate to spend a lot on stuff that I only use a few days a year, but it might be worse to buy cheap every year or two..
I'm not very familiar with ski gear, as I've only been skiing for a few seasons now. I ended up getting all my gear used on Craigslist. Some girl was selling all of her gear, so I picked up everything I needed. It all worked out great except for the ski boots. It's really hard to find boots that fit properly. So a few weeks later I had to invest in a $400 pair of brand new boots. Worth it though to have comfortable feet. I have a good ski set up that cost me about $750 total. Expensive, yes. But would have been so much more had I tried to buy everything new, and I'm glad I bought most of my stuff used because I got good quality stuff at a fraction of the price.
