Oh, Toronto

Ugh. I really really want to go to Toronto to visit my friends, but I really don’t think I can afford it. Not even after I’ve postponed the trip by 5 months (I was supposed to go in July for my friend’s wedding that ended up getting canceled). I’ve found flights around $530-550 roundtrip right now, which is decent. But after thinking about hotels and spending money, I’m still going to be over $1,000. And with Hawaii fast approaching, as well as Christmas just around the corner, I feel like I’d be stretching myself too thin financially. Not to mention the fact that BF and I are living on just my income at the moment.

BF and I also have a trip to Calgary planned for February. So if I don’t get to go in November, then I’m not sure I’ll be able to go until the spring. Which would suck, but of course I’d be able to deal with it. But I don’t want to put it off any longer than that. I am making a promise to myself that I WILL visit Toronto by the end of Spring 2011. Don’t let me forget!

Ugh, I hear you. I just started reading your blog because I have a lot of saving up to do over the next year or so (wedding, finishing up student loans, honeymoon, moving….), and we just planned a short trip to Seattle. Even on budget hotels, dirt cheap airfare and renting the cheapest car possible, we're in it for about a grand for just a few days, before we even eat, or do tourist things! Travel is expensive for sure.

  5. You mentioned you were going to Hawaii next month. Did you book with West Jet? I know West Jet has these promotions where if you book a 7 day vacation with them (flight + 6 night hotel), they will give you a $200 credit towards your next flight. I went to Hawaii last year and booked the 7 day vacation with West Jet for about $800 (tax included) and I got a $200 credit towards my next flight (my Montreal Trip this year) and it really helped bringing the flight cost down! (from $533 to $333 for the flight). Maybe you can try that next time? They usually have this deal between June – August. :)

We booked through Alaska Air. BUT we booked our West Jet trip to Mexico earlier this summer with West Jet, and we ended up getting 2x $100 credit towards flights. However, we will be using them for our trip to Calgary in February since BF isn't coming with me to Toronto.

Awww, you should still come! You can save money with the AirBnB service for accommodations, it's WAY cheaper than a hotel! You can check out my post on it!

I miss Toronto! It’s my hometown :) I haven’t visited in 10 years, and my family moved to Seattle almost 15 years ago!
