BF and I went hiking on the Sunshine Coast this past weekend in Tetrahedron Provincial Park. It’s a beautiful area that BF says is never as crowded as anything on the Lower Mainland. We passed 3 other hiking parties on our way to a cabin we hoped to stay in for the night. There are 4 cabins in the park, each very tidy and well-maintained.
We were headed to the cabin farthest away from the logging roads, so we were fairly confident that we would be the only ones there. WRONG. On the trail we met up with a group of 5 or 6 teenage guys who were on their way to the same cabin we were going to. They had multiple bottles of liquor, so we knew we wouldn’t want to share the cabin with them! Good thing we brought our tent, and after 5 hours of hiking, we set up camp at the lake behind the cabin.
There are a cluster of mountains that we had intended on climbing. I had HOPED to climb at least 2 of them. Unfortunately, bad weather forced us to turn around the next morning and we weren’t able to summit any mountains.
The hike out was kind of miserable and very soggy. Good thing we brought our GORE-TEX gear, otherwise we would have gotten soaked. Worst part about the hike? The fact that even though I always had insect repellent on, the mosquitoes destroyed me. BF had no repellent on and didn’t get a single bite!!! Best part about the hike? Eating handfuls and handfuls of wild blueberries. :)
We also didn’t see a single bear, even though it’s feeding season for them as they fatten up for winter. We saw lots of their prints in the mud though, so we knew they were nearby.
Even though we weren’t able to summit, we did get a good 20km+ hike in! BF says we would definitely get a cabin to ourselves if we came back in the winter. So we’ll probably go back sometime with snowshoes.

Do you often see bears? They are so bold in some of the parks up north here, but we have never seen them in the parks closest, though theoretically, they are there.
That's too bad about the annoying teenagers and the weather, but it doesn't sound too bad at all!
Yeah we see bears often. Mostly black bears, as we try not to hang around grizzly country! I carry a big knife attached to my pack whenever we're in the back country, just in case we run into wild life that we can't scare away.
