Hopefully I’ve accounted properly for September. The budget is quite high because we have our trip to Hawaii at the end of the month, and I have at least one trip home planned for my friend’s wedding shower & bachelorette party that I am helping to host.
My tentative budget is $600 spending for Hawaii (which includes getting my hair done and the manicure/pedicure appointment with the bride on the day of the wedding), and $200 for the wedding shower/bachelorette party. I’m really hoping I can do all of our discretionary spending in Hawaii to under $600, but for some reason I don’t think that’s going to happen. I have a feeling Hawaii is going to be much more expensive than I’m anticipating, even if we cook most of our meals in our rental condo. But here’s hoping!

A tip to save some money in Hawaii.
My wife and I went last month for a week to Waikiki (awesome BTW).
Get the entertainment book before your go.
We saved over $350 in over a week just using coupons.
Also, we went to 1 timeshare presentation for 2 hours of our time total but received:
DInner cruise
Germaines Luao
$50 gift card to Top of Waikiki Restaurant.
Go to happy hours and have fun – it is nice making breakfast at the hotel but it is nice trying new things.
Cheers and Mahalo

Good one, I never thought of the Entertainment Book. We do plan on going out to eat at least once per day. I wonder how I could get a hold of a 2010 book, since I'm sure it's much cheaper than the 2011 book…

They only have the 2011 edition now. Still might be worth it.
How long are you staying (if it is a just a weekend probably not worth it)?

Sounds like a great month-hope you have a blast! FYI-I found it kind of pricey to host a wedding shower. With food, decorations, prizes for games, invitations, etc., it added up fast! I suppose it depends on how fancy/how many people.. Just wanted you to have a heads up.

Yeah we're kind of splitting costs. Another girl is paying for the wedding shower, and I'm in charge of the bachelorette costs. Both are going to be quite low key and won't include very many people. Maybe 10-12 at the most.
Wow, that's a lot of spending! but I'm sure the experiences will be worth it in the end.
By the way, I'm also planning a bachelorette weekend for an old friend of mine, but we're saving a lot of money simply because the bride is a bit, well, old-fashioned. So nothing fancy, just a dinner out and some drinks. We might make matching "bridesmaid" t-shirts, but that's about it. I think it'll all cost less than my bridesmaid dress …

That $200 I budgeted for the bachelorette & wedding shower is for my costs to travel home ( $30-50), as well as the wedding shower present ($50), dinner out + drinks for the bachelorette party ($50), and party favours ($50).

Skip the coupons and shop at Costco while in Hawaii. Make your meals in the condo. That's the biggest savings possible, IMHO. I want to know more about you ending your anonymous blogging. It's not hard sharing your true self — I find it fun to now blog as myself. Writing a big introduction/reveal post is the best way to do it. ;)

Yep we'll be cooking most of our meals in the condo, which is precisely why we decided on the condo instead of hotel. We are going to have one dinner out by ourselves, and one dinner out with the bride and her fiance a couple days before the wedding. Do Canadian Costco memberships work in the USA? I would assume they do.
More will be revealed by the end of this month! :)

Yeah, Canadian Costco memberships do work in the USA. They have a Costco in Maui?

Hi Krystal, I just found out that you have me in your Canadian PF blogroll. Thanks for the link love! I don’t update as often as I’d like, being a “single mom” and all. Can’t wait to get this debt paid off!
