Friday Miscellaneous

Last night I went to a friend’s house for a BBQ. There was nothing else on, so she forced me to watch The Last Song on her laptop with her. I absolutely cannot stand Miley Cyrus. And also, it was literally the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. But do you want to know what the most horrifying part of the entire night was? The realization that she was the best actor in that entire movie. Everybody else was so awful that I wanted to stab my eyeballs with knives. Moving on … in news about my … Continue reading

Boot Camp!

Yesterday I signed up for my first-ever boot camp course. For 6 sessions (every Monday), I’m paying $51. I’ve always wanted to try boot camp, but the cost always stopped me. What was my motivation to actually sign up this time? Partially because a friend also signed up with me, and also because with field hockey starting in September I want to get in really good shape … but mostly because I’m curious! I think after this boot camp course, I would like to try kick boxing. The rec centre doesn’t offer it, and the kick boxing companies only offer … Continue reading

Entertainment spending

A couple of days ago, I met up with my sister and her BF for a lovely dim sum lunch (she treated). They were in town to do a little shopping at IKEA. I’ve stayed away from IKEA for quite a long time now, because you can never just go in and buy one thing. I doubt we’ll be buying anything furniture-wise until we decide to move and buy our own place anyway. Anyway while at lunch, we all decided to go to a pre-season Canucks game together. BF, too. My sister has never been to an NHL game before, … Continue reading

Dreaming of buying property

Lately BF and I have been dreaming about buying our first place together. It’s not going to happen for at least another 2 years, and even then it will depend on the housing market. We’ve identified our preferred neighbourhoods, and whenever we’re out walking or bicycling or driving, more often than not we’ll do a little tour of different areas we might consider living. We used to be so far apart in terms of what our must-haves were; he was the dreamer who wanted a big house and acreage (where exactly would that exist in Vancouver anyway?). Whereas I was much … Continue reading

Hiking trip turned touring trip

So hiking again this weekend was a bust. We drove a long way (about 4.5 hours from Vancouver) – all the way to Gold Bridge & Bralorne. Now, to get to Gold Bridge you have to take logging roads to get there. I’ve never been there before, but if you can imagine a tiny isolated town tucked in the mountains (Wikipedia says 250 inhabitants, but the sign in town says 60). It was cool to see all the old, abandoned buildings. I wanted to get out and go exploring, but BF said it was creepy and there were probably dead … Continue reading
