Shaw Cable student discount

So Shaw Cable has a student discount, and now that BF is a student, we’re going to try to get it. I say ‘try’ because in order to get the discount, you’re supposed to show a valid student ID and course schedule – which he doesn’t have because the institution is stand-alone and only offers the program that he’s taking. I talked with a customer service rep on the phone, and he advised me to go to a Shaw Cable centre and bring all documentation with us – receipt, acceptance letter, etc. And they would most likely be able to … Continue reading

Health Spending Account

So I just found out a while ago when I was at London Drugs getting my prescriptions filled that BC and vaccines (I got the hepatitis A shot) are not covered under my extended health benefits. Why, I’m not exactly sure. BC seems like something that should definitely be covered. But anyway, I ended up paying $101.99 for a 3-month supply of BC and my Hep A vaccine. :( Then I remembered the company offers a $250 health spending account, and I would be able to claim my $101.99 through that and get reimbursed. Going forward, $250/year will more than … Continue reading

I found the perfect dress to wear to my friend’s wedding in Maui. Except that it’s $70. I’ll have to think about it, because that’s a lot to spend and I’m already going all the way to Hawaii. I do have another dress that could work, but it’s really plain and not in the least bit dressy. It also has spaghetti straps, which I don’t like wearing to weddings (prefer wider straps for more coverage). That being said, this week I should bring in about $450 from selling my shoes on eBay and from a contract assignment. So I technically … Continue reading

Condo in Maui

So I’ve been searching for the perfect place to stay in Maui for my friend’s wedding, and I think I’ve found it. There are 2 ground floor units in the same condo unit that I’m interested in. Both have the same views, same layout, etc.  One is charging $139/night, and the other is $170/night + $125 cleaning fee. I e-mailed both of them to ask some basic questions, and I also asked the more expensive condo if they would consider lowering their price to match the cheaper unit. I haven’t heard back from the $170/night place, but the cheaper place … Continue reading

Las Vegas team building activity?

Help! I need your ideas. I have been put in charge of booking some sort of fun “team building” activity while we’re in Las Vegas next month. There will be about 10 people from my company coming down – all various ages and fitness levels. Budget is flexible, but nothing ridiculously overpriced. We will have about 2-3 hours to do this activity, and it will be scorching hot outside (mid-July, afternoon). So nothing really outdoorsy – like a hike. It has to allow for conversation – so no shows – unless it’s something totally cool and interactive – but it … Continue reading
