I found the perfect dress to wear to my friend’s wedding in Maui. Except that it’s $70. I’ll have to think about it, because that’s a lot to spend and I’m already going all the way to Hawaii. I do have another dress that could work, but it’s really plain and not in the least bit dressy. It also has spaghetti straps, which I don’t like wearing to weddings (prefer wider straps for more coverage).
That being said, this week I should bring in about $450 from selling my shoes on eBay and from a contract assignment. So I technically could afford it, but I should use that $450 and change it into US$ for Mexico/Vegas spending money.
Decisions, decisions!

If it were me, I'd buy the dress..wear it…& return it :)
sadly, I actually do this pretty often. I bought a $80 dress for my sisters CPA swearing in ceremony & returned it like I never wore it :)
I wish I could do this!
But: I'm paranoid that the tag will come out and someone will see it AND I usually end up liking the dress so much after the event that I end up keeping it…which is fine, since I don't have many dresses anyway, and could always use more.
Since it appears no one else is responding to this, I will.
What you are doing, Audrey, is committing theft. The retailer will be unable to resell the dress and they will be out the cost. Or they will return the dress to the manufacturer who will be out the cost. This will eventually result in higher prices for the rest of us (so by all rights you are taking money out of the pockets of everyone else who shops at those stores and or buys from that manufacturer). It will also cause the store to eventually tighten it's return policy. Allowing returns is a customer service and it is it constantly abused stores will no longer be able to afford to offer it.
Thrift, frugality, and planning are honorable….theft is not.
How are they not able to resell the dress? Every article of clothing I have had returned in my retail career (albeit short lived) has been able to be put back out on the shelves to be sold to someone else. They usually wont take the article if it's been damaged or the tags have been ripped off already anyway, so the person whose SOL is the one trying to return it after buying it, NOT the store or the manufacturer. If it is in good condition with tags attached, they will throw it right back on the rack.

I would buy the dress, however I would definitely not return it to the store, instead I would wear it a couple of times and then sell it on through Ebay. that way you get to enjoy a special dress and so does someone else. Plus you can also make a little of your $70.00 back.

What about that blue dress you have?
Are you thinking of this dress? If so (it's the only blue dress I own), I think it's way way too fancy for a beach wedding. It's more of a Christmas party/cocktail kind of dress, don't you think? I was thinking of something more flowy and more relaxed for the wedding.

And what about that pink dress? God I sound like such a stalker. I swear I just have an occasionally good memory.
For what it is worth, I usually budget for a new dress for a wedding. This would be unmanageable if I attended a lot of them, but they are dwindling down (for now).

Ugh, my beautiful pink dress. It would have been perfect for the wedding. EXCEPT that when I moved in with BF, he was helping to hang my clothes up, and he snagged the dress on a piece of jagged wood. It tore up the silk and I've taken it to two places to try and get it repaired, but the quotes I got would cost me more than I actually paid for the dress. So it's just a lost cause. :( Cry.

Sad! This decides it! You need a new beautiful dress. But maybe get one that will be versatile?
