Today is pay day (and Friday – woo hoo!). My net pay is only $60 less than my previous job and I’m getting more vacation days and full 100% coverage health benefits for the both of us. PLUS, previous to this job, BF and I were paying $114/month combined for MSP (since we didn’t have a health plan), and that is now covered. So really, I’m making more than what I was at my old job, even though salary-wise I’m making a tiny bit less ($1k difference annually). After my car payment and setting some aside for regular living expenses, … Continue reading
I woke up this morning and thought today was Friday. Ugh. What a disappointment. Last night BF and I went for a shortish 8km walk to Tim Horton’s after the Habs/Pens game (BF is a huge Habs fan, and an obnoxious one at that). I got a medium iced cap, which as usual, I couldn’t finish. When will I learn that I can only ever finish the small portions of anything? And even then, half the time BF has to help me finish my meal. My eyes are always definitely bigger than my stomach. We also rented this crappy vampire … Continue reading
A couple of my girlfriends and I have planned a camping trip every summer for the past 2 years on the Labour Day long weekend. Last year’s was kind of lame because I was sick and had to bail out early. And the year before we got rained on. So we’ve decided just to plan it on a regular weekend in July. And I am super excited. It will be an inexpensive, fun weekend with my best friends here in Vancouver. Speaking of friends, all of my co-workers at my new job are SUPER friendly. The girls I am most … Continue reading
So. The courses BF needs to graduate from his program aren’t available in town. So he’s thinking of moving away for 3 months in the fall to compete his courses elsewhere. Otherwise he’ll have to wait until January to enroll. Which would mean a long-distance relationship and maybe no trip to Hawaii. Boo to both! :( When BF first told me of his potential plan to move away, I was not in favour. At all. I’m trying to be as supportive as I can, because it is a great opportunity for him to get going with his career – but … Continue reading
It’s already May, and I had wanted to do a quarterly update on my 2010 Goals, but clearly I’m a little late with that. So I figured I’d better do them now. You know, I didn’t realize I had made so many freaking goals for myself this year! Financial $35,000 Retirement Portfolio. I lost 6 weeks due to unemployment, but I’m still on track to reach this goal. Right now I’m sitting at $29,886 with just less than 10 months until the 2010 RRSP deadline (Feb 28, 2011). I need $5,114 to meet my goal, and my current savings plan has … Continue reading
