Hiking over the long weekend

Well, I’m back from our long weekend trek of the Juan de Fuca trail. It was a hard 47km, but not the hardest thing I’ve ever done. We had great weather; it only really lightly rained twice – and we had already set up our camp for the night. For food we brought mostly dehydrated meals (which were actually really good), as well as rye bread, cheese, sausage, oranges, and then the normal cliff bars, trail mix, etc. We stayed on budget with everything except for food. It was expensive because of the dehydrated meals (about $4-6 each), but I … Continue reading

Weekend Budget

I am super excited for the long weekend. I’m taking a 1/2 day tomorrow in order me to catch the ferry in time for the concert (and to run some errands in my home town). We have to bring some things from IKEA for my mom, so she’ll be paying for our ferry to the island (we’ll have to pay for our ferry back obviously). Tentatively, I’m going with a friend down to see the Angels on June 5th just for a day, and then we’re going to try to make a weekend out of the Yankees series on July 10-11.  I’d still like to catch a game … Continue reading

10km running goal in sight

Fitness-wise I’ve been keeping up with my workouts. I’ve got to ramp it up though. I want to be able to run a 10km in <50 min. with ease by the fall. I can run a full 10km now, but it would probably be closer to 58 min. Right now I’m running 5km in about 26-27 min (it’s not going all-out, but at a comfortable pace – probably about 75% effort), and am slowly increasing my running time. I prefer the treadmill right now because I can monitor my speed and distance precisely, and every run has been interval training (fartleks). … Continue reading
