I want to buy a speaker dock for my iPhone (that obviously also charges my phone too). It’s to use at work. I like having background music playing – at a very low level. Sometimes when people are at my desk, they can barely hear my music playing. The graphic designer that used to work here, he had a speaker system rigged up in the marketing area so that everyone on this floor could hear his music. Sounds super obnoxious IMO. Right now I’m using Grooveshark streaming online, and that’s often glitchy. I’d love to use Pandora but it’s not available to Canadians. And I used to stream The Zone 91.3FM on my computer, but lately I’m finding that radio music just annoys me.
I thought about wearing headphones, but I find that makes me inaccessible to co-workers who I can’t hear, or because of the headphones they think I don’t want to be bothered. I don’t want to shut out the noise and people around me, I just want to listen to music. :)
A few years ago, my dad bought me a speaker dock for my iPod Video, but they’re not compatible with my iPhone (boo urns).
So, does anyone have a speaker dock (compatible with iPhone or iTouch) that they would recommend? Thought I’d throw it out there before I start doing my own research online. I don’t want anything too fancy, and I think I’d be looking to spend about $50-100. My dad spent about $75 for my old speaker dock, so I think that’s a reasonable amount. Although I would be willing to pay more for better quality (as I know my price point is pretty low), just nothing too outrageous.

the bose sounddock is the best hands down but it's closer to $300.
whatever you do, double check that it actually does charge your iphone. when i went from my original iphone to iphone 3g, i had to get all new accessories because my old ones wouldn't charge my new iphone.

For streaming music I have been using Accuradio for a while and love it, lots of friends and family are using it now as well you can chose any genre that you like and it is almost commercial free. Granted the commercials that they do play are pretty annoying.
I have one that's iHome brand, and it was about $100. It does charge my phone and I think the speaker quality is good. (My ex was an audio nerd, and he picked it out for me, so I think it's pretty good.) Mine also works as an alarm clock, so you could use it that way if you ever decided not to keep it at work.
I just let my iphone speaker play – if you don't plug in headphones, it just plays through a speaker that's built in and I find it more than enough volume for me. I thought about buying a speaker dock at first but found I haven't needed one.
I usehttp://www.amazon.com/iHome-iH41BR-Pivoting-Alarm…
It charges my iPhone as it plays and I can't say enough good things about it.
I have one of these at home and I love it! It charges (but doesn't have to as i believe it also has an audio in jack with cable) and plays at the same time and has a great remote that you can use to switch between things. With it being an FM/AM radio, you can always find something to listen too! It is a little big though – about the size of a standard multi-line office phone

I need to find out the brand of iPod dock I have. I LOVE it and it has served me for years.
and c'mon… punch up the Zone at least during my show :-) or rock my Mixcloud which has awesome (I think) ambient/chill mixes, great for work. (http://mixcloud.com/jeremybaker )
Yes, please let me know what kind of iPod dock you have! I'm about to do some serious online research. :)
Also I do try to listen to your show. I like The Zone and I like all of the on-air personalities, but you know how it is. A lot of radio music is just so obnoxious these days. On good days I can get The Zone on my car radio over here in Vancouver, which is nice. Because I hate every single Vancouver radio station, seriously.
no I get it :-P radio music drives me batty sometimes too… I'm just giving you a hard time. too much of anyone thing gets tiring, its so good to try other sounds and entertainment and art.
and check out my mixes! :-)
I'm pretty sure I have the version of iHome previous to this one:http://www.ihomeaudio.com/iP97 and I got it on sale for about $50 at Future Shop on Boxing Week sales last year although regularly priced it's $100. I love it! Sound is good and the small things I love about it are that you can dim the display 8 times (and have it off) and you the alarm function gradually gets louder as it turns on so it doesn't freak you out when it wakes you up. There's also two alarms and you can set them at 5 days of the week, 2 weekend days, or all 7 days. There's a remote, you can save your fave radio stations, and switching for daylight savings is just a little switch in the back. The other cool thing is that it comes with different plates so you can use it with any ipod or iphone! I have nothing but good things to say about my iHome :) I did my research too and if I could remember, there was a really great website with lots of detail rating each dock/alarm clock out of 10 and this one got high marks.

I owned an iPhone 3GS and it really does wonder. I like it from the icons to how the transition works. Thinking of changing to iPhone 4 quickly soon after my next month’s salary.
