Random Tuesday Thoughts

This will be kind of a random post.

Over the weekend I bought my first tinted lipgloss ever. L’Oreal Colour Juice Sheer Lip Gloss (#240 Cherry on Top), if you must know. :) I’ve never even tried lipstick before (except for when I had my make-up and hair done for my grade 12 grad – and hated it). I’ve always been a chapstick kind of girl because my lips are really full – I always thought that anything too dramatic on my lips would make me look like a clown. But I look pretty good! A lot more put together than just chapstick, and the colour is very subtle. So I’m pleased.

Fitness-wise, I’ve worked out 6 of the past 9 days. It’s been pretty easy to get my workouts in because BF is never around anymore. He’s working super super hard during the day, and on top of that he has a really tough course coming up that he’s studying for and doing pre-testing. So he leaves the house when I do in the mornings (which is early!), and then I don’t see him again until close to midnight. But, you have to work hard to get what you want. And what we want is to buy our own place and have a good life together. :)

I’ve also been thinking of getting back into mystery shopping, but the only thing holding me back is that they are really annoying to drive to. It’d be fine if they were close to where I live, but to drive for over an hour roundtrip just to make $10-30? No thanks. So I’ve been perusing Craigslist for a part-time casual job. Not really for the money, but to do something fun with my time and to meet new people. I could bid on a bunch of design contracts that I see, but I’d rather get out and do something interactive. I spend enough time inside on a computer as it is. So we’ll see what turns up. Probably nothing. Whenever I have the urge to find a part-time job, I usually just end up forgetting about it.

Also, I just finished the book Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. It’s a great story and I often times found myself thinking “oh, that’s why I was brought up like that,” or “my family is exactly like that!” I’m going to try to borrow more books written by thisĀ authorĀ from the library. I don’t have another book that I have waiting to read, so is anyone reading anything amazing right now that they could recommend?

I can not believe you never have owned lip gloss before! Lipstick, sure, a lot of people skip that. But no gloss? ever?

That sucks that J is gone so much lately — but you are right, sometimes you have to sacrifice!
My recent post I raised my own rent!

Nope, I was a lip gloss virgin. I've tried it a few times before when I was in high school but it always felt really goopy. So for the past 10-12 years it's just been chapstick. And even now, before I put on the lip gloss, I put on a layer of chapstick. Haha.. :)

As for BF yeah it kind of sucks. It'll be like this for the next year, and he might even need to move away for 6 months to work as a pre-requisite of his program. But we're both hoping he can find somewhere close and just commute.

I've read Shanghai Girls and it wasn't bad! Two of my absolutely favourite reads in that genre are The Concubine's Children by Denise Chong and Falling Leaves: The Memoir of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter by Adeline Yen Mah. I own Falling Leaves, and always find myself re-borrowing the Concubine's Children over and over again at the library :) There is also Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, also by Lisa See.

wow i cant believe you’ve never tried lip gloss either! I have probably 20+ glosses/lipsticks.
A great book ive finished recently is A Thousand Splendid Suns…one of my favourites now. Right now I am reading Angels and Demons. Its really good if you like that sort of thing! I read Davinci Code a long time ago and always meant to try this one just never got around to it until now.

  6. Good for you! I have the same situation too. I have full lips and thought dark colored lipsticks and glossy ones won’t look good, but I think that it’s really about choosing the right color for you.

I loved Lisa See's previous book as well. I hope I get to read this one too. A Thousand Splendid Suns is awesome as well.
