Alice in Wonderland 3D

Last night I went to see Alice in Wonderland 3D with a friend. Dinner and a movie cost about $25. The movie was $5 more than usual because it was in 3D. And really? That was my only gripe about the movie: was it really necessary to have it in 3D? They didn’t even really utilize it very often. Seems like an unneeded expense. But it was a good movie. Johnny Depp was good, and I was impressed with Mia Wasikowska as Alice … but I didn’t much care for Anne Hathaway. I don’t think I’d see it again when it comes out on DVD, but I’m glad I saw it in theatres.

Has anyone else seen it?

I've seen it! Maybe it wasn't waste of time but IMO it was nothing special. But costumes, some dialogues and promotion are really great!

  2. $5????? A regular movie here costs at least $11.99. 3D is $13.99! Consider yourself very lucky.
As for the movie, I agree, there was not much 3D about it but I loved it nonetheless and will see it again very soon. Next time though, I will skip the 3D. Since it was made for Regular Theatre (unlike Avatar) it must be just as good without the annoying 3D glasses.

I saw this movie and I agree about the 3D. I wish I would have only paid for the 2D. I was more impressed by the previews in 3D than the actual movie. But I did enjoy the movie!

  4. I think she meant $5 EXTRA….I saw it in 2D (and for free!). I wasn’t overly impressed though. My impressions from the previews were right: it all seemed like a big ol’ cartoon with a few live actors in it. I’m over the whole CGI movement. Bring some real live sets and props back in! (Although I’m not sure what the financial implications of that are…)

That being said, I didn’t hate it, so that’s a good thing! I really liked the Alice character (and the actress). Anne Hathaway’s character kinda creeped me out though (was she supposed to? I also would’ve liked some more background on the two sisters) and is it just me or was the whole Mad Hatter and Alice thing at the end kind of…..odd? I dunno, I got a bit of a weird vibe from that. lol.

Regarding the 3D thing, there were no moments where I thought “Oh, I wish that was 3D”. I agree, the glasses are a nuisance, and the payoff usually isn’t all that great.

I think really it was just that the 3D was more nuanced. I still thought it brought a lot of flavor to the scenes. But it just wasn’t someone standing on screen with a paddleball to demonstrate 3D so it wasn’t always as noticeable.

Like you, I was really unimpressed with Anne Hathaway in this. I don’t know what was up with her arms, I think maybe she’s just one of those actresses who can’t do absurdity. It was a real letdown, though, as I had just recently watched Rachel Getting Married and was floored by her performance there.

I saw it last week and the tickets cost $12 each for the matinee. Yikes.
I really liked it, but in general I kind of hate the 3D. I have to put the glasses over my glasses so it’s uncomfortable, and things always just seem blurry.

  16. I saw it in 3D as well, and I didn’t think it made much of a big difference. And I also agree about Anne Hathaway. I wasn’t very impressed with her portrayal of the White Queen. She seemed out of her element. Fantastic movie none-the-less.
