GMBMFB’s makeover! March 3, 2010

Posted by gmbmfb in : blog , trackback

Well, hopefully if you subscribe to my blog via RSS, you’re getting my new posts. Sorry if the feed has been glitchy over the past few days. I think everything has worked itself out and I am almost settled into my new WordPress home. :)

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new page, please come by! I have 2 domain names now: my old one (krystalatwork.com), and the brand new givemebackmyfivebucks.com. A mouthful, that’s for sure. But I’m glad that I own both. Just to let you know, my old domain name might not work this week (migrating over to Blue Host), so if you do choose to visit my blog, try the new one out.

All of the links in my old posts, where I link back to another post – those are all not working. I haven’t been able to figure that out yet. It has been a royal pain in the butt switching over to WordPress. But I like the new layout and everything SEEMS easier, but I’m just used to Blogger. It’s like when I first switched over to Mac from PC. I kept trying to do things the hard way on my new Mac, when I just had to stop thinking about where a feature was hiding, and just think to where it logically should be.

Oh, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to get my comments nested, and also how to show user pictures? I think for some reason the default on the theme that I’m using doesn’t allow either. But I’m sure I’ll figure it out in time.

If any of you have suggestions on how I can improve this blog, please let me know!

P.S. I know a few of you were concerned that I was going to stop blogging. It was a close call. I bought new domain hosting, started designing a new blog, and almost killed off GMBMFB – but in the end, I couldn’t do it. BF made me realize that I had put too much time and energy into this blog, and I would miss it too much and probably stop blogging if I had to start new. Plus, WordPress is definitely better for monitoring comments and getting rid of spammers. He was right (for once), so here we are now!

Yay! I love the new layout!

Welcome home, Krystal! You’re going to love WordPress!

If you want to nest your comments, you can use the IntenseDebate plugin that both FB and I have on our blogs. It shows gravatars, too.

You’ll have to share where you got your layout from… I need a new layout for my blog and haven’t had any luck finding anything nice yet… any suggestions?

Awesome! I just installed IntenseDebate. :)

This layout is called Regulus. I really like it because everything seems customizable, and I wanted to be able to tweak the width as well as the banner area.

I don't want to be negative …. but just honest …. I prefer your previous banner, with the money on it. Just ties in nicely with the title of the blog. Perhaps it was a choice to become more 'international' rather than just featuring Canadian money, and then just have a maple leaf featured off to the side? Probably not, I'm just taking a guess. Maybe I'm one of those that are slow to adapt to changes! But first impression still is that I like the previous title banner better. The rest of the blog is nice, and I think it's smart that your domain name is now the same as your title.

I really liked my old banner too! Not sure why I changed it… just trying something different I guess. My goal is to figure out how to get different headers to show up on this blog (change on refresh), and bring back the old header into the rotation.

I actually like this new banner, but maybe if you put some cash or a leaf off to the right as mentioned above

I think it looks fresh and modern.

@gmbmfb – I felt the same way with Ending The Rat Race because it is a lot of work revamping a website AND blogging at the same time. I'm new to WP (since Feb) and now that I'm getting the hang of it, I love it! I think my wife would really like your site. Nice branding.

I did something like this with .xml and javascript for a work website. Not sure if WP allows that, though.
