March 2010 Monthly Goals

Okay, March is all about getting back on track. Now that the Olympics are gone, I anticipate all of my spending to go back to normal. I’m planning to go home for one weekend out of the month, and we have a potential ski weekend planned with 2 other couples. This may or may not happen, but I will plan for it anyway.

BF is gone for about half of the month for training, so that will definitely cut down my variable spending.

March Goals:

  • Workout 6x/week
  • $150 into Savings Fund
  • $100 into Emergency Fund
  • $550 into Retirement Portfolio (RRSP & TFSA)
  • $50 into Car Fund
  • $150 into Property Fund
  • $50 into Travel Fund
  • List at least 3 things on eBay
  • Make an extra $100 this month

I like how you divide your money into different funds. But how does it come across in your account?

Are all these under savings or checking? Or do you just have to keep tracking of the amount by way of spreadsheeting?

I need to get back to working out again. My exercise room has been neglected as of late.

I have about 7 or 8 different savings accounts, so literally each savings category I have, has its own account. It's easier for me to divide up my money that way, instead of pooling it all into a "general" savings account and having to keep track of it myself. :)

        Hi,

I just discovered your PF blog and love it :) I am assuming all your 7 or 8 savings accounts are all free? I have been thinking about opening new accounts for Emergency Fund, Travel Fund, etc but I thought the monthly fees would kill me. Can you recommend any free savings accounts besides PC Financial (if you're in Canada)?

        Thanks!

Hi! Yes all of my savings accounts are free. I have half of them with PC Financial (for a bit quicker access) and the rest are with ING Direct. I really like ING. It's very user friendly, their customer service is really good, and they always have very competitive interest rates. The only down side is that it takes 3 or 4 business days to deposit or withdraw money. Which is good for me, because it discourages me from dipping into those accounts.

Nice thread. So I was inspired from some previous posts and I have started the 30 day shred program (i'm on day 12 right now) and all is going well. When I'm done, I'm thinking on just keeping it as a lifestyle change!

I can't get over how frugal you are and how efficient you are at tracking your finances. Great job!

That's awesome!!! The 30 Day Shred is definitely awesome for someone who needs to get into a fitness routine. I'm going to keep at it too, after my 30 days are up. Although it's taking much longer than 30 consecutive days for me to finish mine. I think I'm up to Day 22, and I've been at it since January. I blame the Olympics! Who has the time to workout when there's so much TV to watch and sleep to catch up on after celebrating all night!
