Quicken Essentials FOR MAC!!!

I just got my paws on something that I have been waiting for FOR YEARS: Quicken Essentials for Mac. I almost didn’t switch over to Mac because I hated the last version of Quicken for Mac. True story! That version was awful. So I ended up installing Parallels on my Mac just so I could run Quicken for PC (and Rollercoaster Tycoon – what!?). Well, Parallels broke for me a few years ago (can’t figure out how to fix it – I think I need a Windows XP disc), so I’ve been using an Excel spreadsheet. Which is all fine and good, but nothing beats Quicken IMO.

I’ve done the initial set-up and downloaded my transactions from my bank accounts … will do a full review once I’ve used it for a few weeks.

On a Quicken-related note, don’t forget to enter to win a copy of Quicken Cash Manager (for PC)!

I am in the exact same situation as you. Former PC owner who loved Quicken, bought a Mac, and installed parallels just to use the program. Parallels (and thus Quicken) quit for me when I installed Snow Leopard. Googling has led me to believe it is a shadow of it's PC big brother. Hopefully the investing portion is still present in the Mac form. Eagerly awaiting your review. I'm a bit scared of the word "Essentials" in the new title. I hope Intuit finds the same features in Quicken "Essential" as I do. :-)

I lol'ed when you said rollercoaster tycoon WHAT! not that I ever played that, just that it was funny and random. And I like that you throw random things out there once in a while :)

I hope you post a review soon, like the first comment, essentials has not been getting any good reviews online.. well.. somewhat ok reviews.. its just a watered down version.. but heck.. if it eliminates the basic need for excel sheets.. then thats all we need really

Yeah it's definitely a watered down version. It's also not that great for Canadians because all the investment accounts are structured for USA. But, it's exactly how I remember it for keeping track of my savings, chequing and credit cards. I'm going to try to get a review up in the next week.

I have used Quicken for years. Stayed with Quicken for mac 2006 and just upgraded to Essentials for Mac. It is the 2010 version which then upgraded to version 1.5 (2011) after installation. Transferred all my data easily and quickly, but investments did not for some reason. Was able to connect and download my Vanguard account info, but still can’t get TDameritrade or TRprice.
This program is much faster, smoother, and simpler to use than previous versions. There is a lot more customization capabilities.
