Yesterday my friend asked if I wanted to go to the Norway vs. Slovakia quarter-final qualification game with her. The ticket is at face value, so $80. At first, I was hesitant to spend the money. They’re not exactly top teams, and I had just bought $160 worth of face care products over the weekend. But then I got to thinking – this is the OLYMPICS. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And this is hockey we’re talking about. Olympic hockey. I have the money sitting in my Travel Fund. So I told her I would go.
I’m extremely lucky that I’ve been able to score tickets to TWO hockey games at face value price. For those who aren’t in Vancouver, you have no idea how much people are trying to sell their tickets for. And people are buying them! 4 tickets to the men’s hockey gold medal game are selling for $98,000. I know someone who sold 2 of his gold medal hockey tickets for $4,000 cash and a 1 private all-inclusive 1-week cruise for 2 on a 62 ft. yacht, complete with a chef on board & bartender! And it’s not just hockey with the inflated ticket prices – try getting to long track speed skating! It’ll cost you at least $1,000 per ticket.
I’ll definitely be taking lots of photos, and I’ll be sure to post photos of all the Olympic celebration downtown.

Actually, the game sounds really exciting. Have fun for your Ontarian readers who don't have the opportunity to see any of the games live…in their own country. :) I am rooting for Norway!
Enjoy the game!
My sister is there now and she's been to figure skating, women's hockey, curling, short track speed skating, men's hockey and more figure skating… she says that tickets are expensive (except for the first figure skating ticket they bought before they left, everything else was bought in cash, on the street) but worth it! They are getting free lodging so can splurge on tickets while there.
Awesome that Canada won last night for ice dancing!! They totally deserved it.
It's nice that you have the money to partake in great opportunities like this :-) Enjoy!
I spent more money than I had intended buying tickets way back when (but got them all for face value through VANOC), but after thinking about it, thought the experience outweighed the fiscal responsibility. One of those things you can't really attach a dollar figure to.. y'know?
Someone I know got offered $30,000 for his two tickets to the USA vs CAN game the other day. He accepted. To be honest, I'm not quite sure if I would've!
