I’m a little heartbroken that Jeremy Wotherspoon didn’t win a medal last night during the 500m long track speed skating. It’s pretty obvious that it will be his last Olympics, and even though he is the most decorated male speed skater in history with 67 World Cup wins (an all-time record), he has never won Olympic gold. But at least he has the 1000m race still to come.
Oh and as a side note to the Olympics, my commute to work has never been better! During rush hour, I’m shaving 15 min. each way on my drive – that’s cutting my commute in half!
After speed skating, BF and I went to Superstore to do our weekly grocery shopping. My total came to $36.72, and I used 20,000 PC points to get $20 off my bill. So my groceries only came to $16.72! :)
Anyway today after work I need to rush home so I can watch Canada vs. Norway (men’s hockey). I have a few friends that will be at the game. EVERYONE I know is super excited for men’s hockey. Even people that wouldn’t normally care. I love it. Nothing brings a country together quite like the Olympics.

I also shop at Superstore but don't collect PC points because I'm not sure how they work. How long did it take (or how much money spent) to collect 20,000 points?
Thanks …
Anonymous: It’s 10 points for every $1 spent on your PC Mastercard or 5 points for every $1 spent on your PC debit card. You also get 50 bonus points for every reusable bag you use when you buy your groceries. I always put my groceries on my Mastercard for maximum points, and when I get home I pay off that exact amount from my chequing account … since using Mastercard will generate double the points than the PC debit card.
So, you can redeem your points in 10,000 increments. 10,000 points = $10 off. 20,000 points = $20 off, etc. You can also redeem points online for different things. For a while I was getting free movies and free movie rentals, but I think it’s a better deal to redeem PC points for $$ off grocery bill.
I think you can also earn bonus points from certain items in the store? But I never pay attention to that.
I'm so excited for the hockey. Been looking forward to it for a while now! It's at 7:30pm here because of the time difference, I hope it's a good night!
So true! I've never really cared much about sports at all but I'm so excited for our men's (and women's!) hockey teams. I like watching the women play, because they always seem so savage compared to the other teams.
That's too bad for Jeremy Wotherspoon. Let's hope he gets the gold in the 1000m race. Still, his record is already excellent with the 67 world cup wins. It'd be awesome if he gets the gold for the last race.

This might be masochistic… But I REALLY want to see Canada vs Finland. And I want Canada to WIN! p'-'q

Are you saying that your commute is much better because no one's going to work these two weeks and most people are using transit?
I find the commute not too too bad either… initially it was really bad when they first closed the Dunsmuir and Georgia viaducts though.
its so true that nothing brings people to together quite like the olympics!! ahhh its so exciting!! And now we have 2 gold!!
Krystal, did you see the Opening Ceremonies, and if so, what was your favourite part? Maybe a question for a post??
I loved k.d. lang's performance, and the 'whales' swimming on the floor of BC Place. Gretzky's ride through the streets of Van in a pickup in the rain made me chuckle. (Although he always is classy, am I the only one that thought he looked a little sheepish doing that?)
I also have an Olympic question for you and any of your Canadian readers. (I hope you don't mind.) Did anyone watch the pairs long program? One of the Russian pairs skated to Love Story, and our US announcers mentioned that they chose that music as a tribute to Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, whom the female Russian skater idolized. After the skate, our cameras showed Sale and Pelletier, who were there broadcasting for Canadian TV. They looked rather angry, and I'm wondering if they said anything on the Canadian broadcast to indicate they were upset that the music they used in their iconic program had been used by someone else. I can't imagine they would be insulted by that, but they did look rather upset. Any insight? Thanks!
Last night's hockey game rocked. Even though its only the preliminary round, it was definitely a patriotic moment for me and I can't wait to see the rest of the games. Tomorrow night's games is gonna be good too!
Too bad about Wotherspoon tonight. He gave it his all at least. Congrats to Davis.
