The ice cream compromise

I belong to the Dairy Queen e-mail newsletter, along with all the other bad-for-me newsletters (J.Crew anyone!?). Well DQ always sends out 2-for-1 coupons. And usually I can resist, but last night I couldn’t.

And I was torn. I checked online and the blizzard I wanted (Turtle Pecan Cluster) had 789 calories for a small. I immediately felt guilty. There was no way I could justify eating that many calories. Especially when my daily calorie budget is around 1400-1500. But I also know that if you deprive yourself of something, you’ll end up wanting it more. And then you’ll over-indulge.

So I compromised. I went to DQ with BF and I bought that blizzard (with the coupon). Then when we got home, I only ate 1/3 of it, and saved the rest of it for later. That way, I got the treat I was craving, at only 1/3 the calories. AND I have 2 more servings of dessert for another time. Unless BF gets to it first … :)

That is a good idea eating 1/3 of it (I had no idea that a small would have that many calories)

You need to have treats sometimes.

I order a small sundae with blizzard toppings instead of the usual hot fudge or strawberries or whatever. It's a much smaller serving but still pretty satisfying when all I want is a blizzard!

What willpower! I am embarrassed to say that I would never be able to save the rest for later…

    Yum!!!! Those are my FAVOURITE!

But you have much more self-control than I do.

Mine was gone in 5 minutes ;)

Soooo much willpower! I would've put it in the freezer, then went back an hour later, cleaned it up and felt sick after for eating so much ice cream!

My husband read this post and feels vindicated. He can make a small blizzard last 6 days and we all tease him mercilessly. Of course now that I know how many calories are in a small blizzard I may have to change my tune!
