Future Home Fund

Some of you might have noticed that I have a new sidebar up now. The Future Home Fund is a joint savings account for – you guessed it – our future home. We don’t know what city we’ll be living in, or whether we’ll have a house, townhome or condo – all we know is that we want to start saving up for a home together. This money isn’t even earmarked for anything. It could go towards the down payment, closing costs, or home renovations. I have $25k from my RRSPs that I had always envisioned using for the First-Time … Continue reading

Starting 2010 on the right foot

Well, so far 2010 has been cheap. On New Year’s Day, I bough us donairs for lunch ($16.25), and then over the weekend we went grocery shopping ($46.33). After spending Christmas & Boxing Day on the island, we pretty much just holed up in our place, only coming out to exercise or to buy food. Speaking of exercise, our trip to the climbing gym yesterday was quite positive. After not going climbing for about 6-7 weeks, I can still do 5.10+ routes. My stamina isn’t what it used to be, and I could stand to lose 10 lbs, but I’m … Continue reading

My Review: 2009 Annual Goals

Well, looking back on 2009, a lot has changed. And I didn’t do very well in accomplishing the goals that I set out for myself … and part of it is situational, but most of it was me. I’m going to work very hard in 2010 to make sure I achieve the goals that I’ve set for myself. 2009 Finance Goals: $5,000 in Emergency Fund. FAIL! I’m at $4,040, so I didn’t quite get there. I had some setbacks this year, mostly including getting into that car crash and having to pay the damages associated with that. $10,000 in Travel … Continue reading

Planning a trip to Thailand!

Today is my last day of vacation. I’m very sad. The past 10 days have been glorious and relaxing. I’ve never had a stay-cation before. Every time I’ve gotten vacation days, it was always to go somewhere. So this was nice. We’re going to the climbing gym today – which I’m really excited about since we haven’t had the chance to go in a few months. We’ve decided to really ramp up our rock climbing sessions because we’re planning a trip to Thailand at the end of this year. Potentially right after Christmas, so we’re out of the country for … Continue reading

Skiing in Whistler

Today we went skiing in Whistler for the day. That’s about a 2.5 hour drive from where we live. But thankfully BF was able to scrounge up 2 free passes, so all we had to pay for was the gas to get up there. And this trip was much, much cheaper than going up for the impromptu long weekend trip that I had ended up budgeting for. I’ve never been skiing in Whistler before, so it was quite the experience. First, it’s MASSIVE! Whistler/Blackcomb is so ridiculously big. I only ended up seeing about half of Blackcomb, and we didn’t … Continue reading
