My motivation is a new dress

Last night I got to thinking: I have a wedding to go to in July (in Michigan) which I’m really excited about. My best friend from college is marrying his high school sweetheart, and I’ll get to see a bunch of old college friends that I haven’t seen in years and years.

If I can exercise 5x/week until the end of June, then I will treat myself to a new dress to wear for the wedding. I’ve gained about 7 lbs. since college, so I’d really like to lose that weight as well. But the most important thing is exercising regularly and feeling good about myself.

I kind of want to do this like the Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp, where I buy a dress that’s maybe one size too small for me right now, and then my motivation to exercise is to fit into the dress. I did it a few years ago, but with a bikini instead. And that totally motivated me to get my butt to the gym! We’ll see.

So my motivation for working out 5x/week for the next 5 months is a hot bod and a new dress. That sounds fair, doesn’t it?

I try to set goals like that but never follow through on them. It's just something about food. I could never subscribe to the "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" philosphy because EVERYTHING tastes good. I run pretty much every day but can't force myself to add to my workouts to actually lose weight rather than just keep from gaining more.

I think it sounds more than fair! I'm trying to workout more each week as well because I have wedding I'm IN in August. So I want to look gooooood in my bridesmaid dress. :)

I would probably suggest buying a dress in a smaller size unless you find something stunning and on sale. The last thing you want is for life to take a turn, not meet your goal AND have wasted money on a dress you can't wear.

    Best of luck!

It does, and I'm currently doing the same thing! Bought a Rodarte for Target dress (not exactly breaking the bank, but still a splurge nonetheless!) in a size smaller than I normally wear in hopes that it will motivate me to lose my last 5 lbs.

I started in Dec. and came down 5 lbs., now I have 5 to go. Was just exercising 4 x's/week and counting calories then, but this month I've been running 4-5 x's/week plus am also doing the 30 day shred challenge everyday and watching calories. I'm hoping the Shred added will be the key to losing the last few pounds before January is over. Good luck to you!

As a seamstress I totally recommend against buying a dress that is too small for you…even if it is only one size smaller. Bikini's have so much stretch to them that they can accommodate for many different body shapes but if you buy a dress that doesn't fit you now it might go to waste as you can't predict where you are going to lose the inches from. Instead take a dress to a tailors and have it fit to your body. Having a dress custom fit for your shape will make you feel like a million bucks! and making a dress smaller is much easier than making it bigger!

I agree with the other seamstress. Don't buy too small because just because you CAN squeeze into after losing your weight goal, doesn't mean you should. Even being just a teeny bit too big in any one area can make the dress look horrible on you.

I think that's totally fair since you will be working out until JUNE! You go girl!
