Calgary: A Spending Recap

Well, according to my January budget, I had $225 to spend while in Calgary. Here’s how I did!

January 13
$38.50 – dinner & beers at the Flames game.
(-$22 BF)

January 14
$5.75 – cost for 2 hours of parking in downtown Calgary.
$34.41 – lunch downtown Calgary.
(-$20 BF)
$66.04 – Chinese dinner for 4 adults & 2 kids (we treated BF’s brother’s family to dinner).
(-$33 BF)

January 15
$15.74 – bought The Lovely Bones b/c I finished My Sister’s Keeper on the plane.
$21.80
– lunch at the mall.
(-$10 BF)

January 16
$43.24 – lunch with 2 of my friends at a pub.
$6.20 – bought cupcakes to share with
$4.77 – Starbucks while shopping w/friend.

January 17
$141.25 – parking for 5 days at the Vancouver Airport (did you puke?)
(-$70 BF)

TOTAL SPENT = $227.70

I think I did pretty well. :) Just a couple dollars over budget, even with the ridiculous cost of parking (hmph!). We had such a fabulous time, and hopefully we’ll be able to get out there again before the end of the year.

and you should be proud, i definitely consider being a couple of dollars over budget a success. glad you had a good time!

I'm just curious why you didn't take the Canada Line, or even a cab to the airport? =)

Shenanigans: We live quite a long ways away from the Canada Line. In fact, just to get to the Canada Line would require 2 or 3 transfers.

And we just didn't think about it. The last time we left the car and flew to Alberta for the same amount of time, I don't recall it being that expensive. J said they hiked up the rates for the Olympics.

  4. Frugal Dreamer says:

A cab to the airport would have been expensive too!

    Ah well.

You did great, even with the crazy parking fee! :)

    Holy Moly!

I did kinda puke a little at that parking price. . . that's insane!

  6. Grocery Alerts Canada says:

Airport parking is expensive everywhere – even in Victoria. My wife and I paid over 80 dollars for a weekend to San Francisco. Still saves over taking a cab downtown and the alternative of the bus.

It looks like you parked in the "Parkade Level P2" for $28.25 per day, which is the most expensive daily parking they have :(

Next time you could park in the Economy Lot which is $20.25 per day (only a short walk) or the Long Term Lot which is $14.75 per day (needs a shuttle). There is also a coupon off the YVR (Vancouver Airport) site that works for both the economy and the long term lots.

  9. Shenanigans says:

Obviously, I'm not sure which part of Vancouver you live in, but from downtown a cab is $35 or so each way. I didn't have a car when I lived there though, so I guess I just automatically think of transit routes!

Here at my local airport (Kansas City) you can park economy for $5.50 per day.. I cant imagine paying what you had to pay!
