Thursday miscellaneous

It’s been rainy and miserable all week here in Vancouver. We’ve been wanting to go skiing, but it’s been raining on the slopes so we’ve been staying cozy in our house instead. Last night we played Boggle, and I won. Undefeated for over 2 years! :) Hopefully this weekend we’ll be able to get up there. BF’s been organizing our ski gear, and it’s all scattered about our place. A few weeks ago I bought a big Rubbermaid container ($7) for my car – so that we could put our snowy gear in it and it won’t melt all over … Continue reading

My mind is on purses

I’ve been thinking really hard about purses over the past week. I’ve decided to take the advice of some readers (and my friends) and look at eBay and other online sites for potentially better quality (and more bang-for-my-buck) bags than Roots (who I will admit, are overpriced at regular price), or Fossil. I have $200+ sitting in my PayPal account from Swagbucks & advertising opportunities. My original intention for that money was to actually buy a purse & black flats with it (so it wouldn’t affect my budget) – since I’ve been wanting both those items for quite some time … Continue reading

Need to buy one more Christmas gift…

I went over to a friend’s house yesterday evening. I bought a bottle of wine for $12, she made me dinner, and we rented Inglorious Basterds. It was a nice evening, but I was a little disappointed with the movie. Maybe it got hyped up too much. I expected more quirkiness. It was good, though … and I wish I had seen it in theatres! She also asked me if I wanted to open my Christmas present. Crap. I did not buy any presents for my friends. We just never have. And she didn’t buy me anything last year, besides … Continue reading

Asking about salary range

Over the weekend I had coffee with a friend. She is currently employed (makes about $40k) in marketing, but is definitely on the lookout for something better. While her current job is good enough for now, she’s looking for something a bit more challenging – and of course she’d like to make more money since she has a hefty mortgage to worry about. Now she has been on a couple of interviews, and obviously most interviews are conducted during business hours. So it’s tough to conduct a full out job hunt if you have to keep excusing yourself from the … Continue reading

2009 goal: make an additional $5,000

One of my goals for 2009 was to make an additional $5,000 above and beyond my regular FT job. With only 2 weeks left in the year, I’ve made $4,468. If you include my tax refund, I’ve made $6,688. Personally I’m inclined to include my tax refund because without contributing to my RRSPs I wouldn’t have earned that amount. But, I’m not going to. $1,732.50 – blog. $505 of that was from Swagbucks alone, and I’ve only been doing that since April! $1,700 – scooter sale. I miss my scooter, but it’s just not practical in Vancouver. $120 – digital … Continue reading
