Inspired by Fabulously Broke’s post, “How much would you pay for…” I decided to take a look at what I would be comfortable spending on certain things (prices are in CAD $ and before tax).
Of course, there’s always wiggle room. I scoff at most clothing/shoes/purse priced over $50 anyway. So I’ve got to love something if I’m going to spend more than $50 on it. That being said, I’d much rather buy something more expensive and is a higher quality, than something cheap that will only last me a few months. I know that spending more money doesn’t necessarily mean a higher quality, but generally speaking, it’s true.
For example, I bought a pair of ‘waterproof’ mitts last year from the kids section at MEC. Only cost me $15. I thought I was being so clever in avoiding the $100+ adult (real) waterproof gloves and saving myself so much money. Well the kids mitts weren’t really waterproof since they were leaking at the seams, so my hands were cold for the entire ski season. So this year I ended up biting the bullet and spending the $100 on real waterproof gloves.
The same can be said about cheapo pants that start pilling, or sweaters that lose their shape, or purse straps that break, or shoes that fall apart. Nothing makes me more angry than wasting money on products that don’t last.
