Design work vs. PT job

Yesterday I got that $315 in the mail that I’ve been waiting for (from a design contract). So this morning before work, I promptly deposited into my bank account, and then treated myself to a delicious Starbucks drink + slice of pumpkin loaf (I rarely ever go to Starbucks – maybe only a few times a year – mostly b/c of the price, but also the calories are outrageous). If BF gets that work-related opportunity (we won’t know until late October), I might think about getting a PT job. I know I’ve said that often and have never followed through, … Continue reading

Can’t always have what you want

So, because I bought those mountaineering boots this month, I’ve decided not to buy those Born flats that I’ve fallen in love with, or that super cute polka dot dress from Etsy that I want. I wish I could buy everything that I want, but I can’t if I want to keep on saving at the rate that I want. So I need to prioritize and be realistic. Next month I will either buy the dress or those shoes. Either way, I will budget in about $100 for clothing.

Flights booked

So BF and I just booked our flights to Calgary. I checked WestJet and they were having a pretty good seat sale and we couldn’t pass it up. It came to $295.40 after taxes and fees for each of us. Way cheaper than the $400-450 I had expected to pay so I’m pleased. :) The cheapest hockey tickets we’ve found for the game we want to go is $100 each before taxes/fees. And that’s for the super high nosebleeds. Not pleased. We have a while to go, so hopefully these are just pre-season over-inflated prices. Although it’s probably going to … Continue reading

Planning a trip to Calgary

Last night was the Canucks/Flames hockey game. It was a great game, although the 3 best players on the Flames weren’t playing, so that was kind of a bummer. We ended up losing 4-5 in a shoot-out, after being down 0-3. I’m happy with that effort. It’s just pre-season, after all. Speaking of Calgary, it looks like we’re going out there in January to visit BF’s family. It’ll take 3 vacation days because the Flames game we want to go to is on a Wednesday, so we’d just stay Wed-Sun. I anticipate our flights will be about $400-450 each, and … Continue reading

Twittering differences

I personally do not follow everyone that follows me. I did at the very beginning, but then I found it was hard to keep up with everyone’s tweets, and I was missing messages from the people I interact with on a regular basis. So a week later I trimmed the list and figured that most people probably just like Twitter-lurking and reading what others have to say. And if they had something to say to me, then they’d let me know. I’m not trying to be exclusive or anything, I seriously just don’t have the brain capacity to keep up … Continue reading
