Mom’s birthday present

Last year my sister and I bought my mom a 2-day guided kayaking trip for 2 for Christmas, and this past weekend, she finally got to go on her trip (it was originally scheduled in May, but had to postpone it until September – trying to fit it into her work schedule was nearly impossible).

I won it at a silent auction for $350, and it’s valued at $800. My sister and I split the cost. It was the most expensive present we’ve bought my mom, but she LOVED it. She called me at work yesterday raving about how wonderful it was. It was probably the best present we’ve ever gotten her, and it really makes me happy that we were able to give her that experience.

Her birthday is in less than a month, and my sister, dad and I are going to all go in to buy her a fancy new paddle. It’ll be about $200 after taxes. My dad is chipping in $100, so my sister and I will come up with $50 each. I think we’re going to try to buy it this weekend when I’m in town, since I don’t know when I’ll be back next.
