So yesterday I received my EA Sports Active + accessory kit in the mail. I was really excited to give it a try after work. I decided on a 20 min. hard workout. Now I’d consider myself to be a pretty fit and active person (and over the years I’ve certainly pushed my body to the limit), but I was impressed with the game. A lot more impressed than I thought I would be. Within a few minutes, I was sweating. And this morning I even feel a little sore.
I’m also really impressed at how many different workout options there are. My favourite so far is the cardio boxing.
In the short time I’ve played and explored through the game, I’ve noticed 2 things that I would change: 1) when doing the exercises, your hands have to be exactly in the same position as they show in the tutorial, otherwise the Wii doesn’t register that you’ve done the exercise properly. That’s annoying, because not everybody holds their hands in a certain position when doing a particular exercise. And 2) the resistance band they give you with the game sucks. I am so glad that I got the accessory pack, because it comes with a much sturdier resistance band with 3 different cords so that you can choose your resistance level.
Anyway I really think that this is going to work for me. It’s an interesting change to going to the climbing gym or hiking. They have short enough workouts that I can squeeze them in in the evening after work. And it’s not a big effort to do them. I just get off the couch and turn on the Wii. Whereas before, I’d have to get off the couch, find the motivation to drive to the gym, pay some money, workout with a whole bunch of people, and then drive home.
I’m going to start that 30 day exercise program and see how that works for me! Although I wonder if you can program in that you exercised outside of the video game, and have it still register as a workout day. I’ll have to look into it.
