So it’s been just over 2 months since I moved in with BF, and things are going well. We are spending a lot more quality time together. We’re also eating healthier and it seems like we have more time just to hang out, as opposed to rushing around and gathering overnight bags, etc. I feel more relaxed. We still need to curb our spending. Admittedly, I’ve been spending more than usual. I could say that it’s because of summer, but I know it’s because of the decrease in my fixed expenses, I have a lot more of my money freed … Continue reading
Yesterday evening, BF and I talked about the Big Trip. Or rather, we argued. There are some things I don’t want to do, and some things he doesn’t want to do. For example, he wants to spend 2 months climbing a mountain in Pakistan. And I want to go to Dubai and the Philippines. So it’s up to us to compromise. We also talked about doing a volunteer program while we’re away. There’s one in China for 3 months, teaching English in rural villages. The cost is $1,300 and includes food and accommodation. That one really interests me. I don’t … Continue reading
What a fun weekend! Saturday morning J and I went downtown. We ate brunch at Hon’s ($17), and then met up with one of his friends for a drink (he treated). Then, I met up with my friends and headed to the Caribbean Festival in North Van. It was ridiculously hot, and I was sweating like crazy … but it was fun. The music was great, there was some great people watching, and the atmosphere was so much fun. I didn’t drink (pay $5 for a small cup of gross beer? no thanks), but my friends drank so much! By … Continue reading
So, as you know I’ve already booked my hotel and bought a concert ticket to The Avett Brothers for the night that I’m in Seattle by myself. Then yesterday, my sister said that she might stay in Seattle with me, then catch a ride back to Vancouver the next night with BF and I (and I’m assuming, she’d also be staying with us that night) – since her boyfriend is driving across Canada to get home and he should be able to meet her there (they want to go to IKEA, since apparently they’re moving in together?) If that ends … Continue reading
Okay, so the book value of my RRSPs are sitting at $24,440. The market value is $23,350. That’s not a good sign. I think that being out only $1,090 in this kind of market means that my portfolio has been way too conservative. I’ve done a lot to re-allocate my funds over the past month and I think I’ve got a good balance now. But that’s a whole other story. Right now, I want to focus on what I’m going to do when I hit my $25k RRSP goal for the year. I am $560 away from my $25k goal … Continue reading
