I finally went to Surrey today to hand in my passport application. It was surprisingly easy. A little too easy, if you ask me. The drive was easy. Finding a parking spot was easy (I even parallel parked for the first time in years without a hitch). The line-up was long but went super duper fast. I was out of there in less than 15 minutes, and I’m supposed to get my passport on June 22nd. Hmm. I’ve been dreading getting my passport for so long because it’s such an ordeal, so I’m very pleased. As long as there aren’t any snags.
The passport was $87. I forgot to put it in my June budget. There’s a chance I could still come under budget this month even with this cost … but I doubt it. I’m going to try really hard though. So far, I’ve been doing really well this month. :)
For our Alaska trip, I was in charge of booking the trip through the travel agent. My sister’s job was buying the American $$ at the best rate. We have been mulling over when to buy our money for a few months now. And since the dollar was up over 90 cents last week, we decided to go for it. We each purchased $300 US and it ended up being $340. She went to a bank instead of the currency exchange, and didn’t check what the actual exchange rate was before she went. Which is too bad. But we were exchanging so little money that I guess it would have only been a few dollars difference.
Over the weekend I found out my cousin and her family are going on an Alaskan cruise 1 week before we go. And my parents and my aunt & uncle are going in July. If we had all known in advance, we could have booked it so that we were traveling together! But in a way, I’m glad it worked out this way because it’ll be nice just to have a sisters getaway.
