We were supposed to spend the weekend packing up my apartment. But unfortunately I got the news that my grandma was very sick, so my cousin and I went back home (he lives in Vancouver too). She passed away about 2 hours after we arrived, so I’m glad that we left right away. And I’m grateful to BF for packing up and moving most of my things for me while I was gone. I didn’t feel normal enough to work today, so I took the day off so I could be by myself and collect my thoughts. I’ll probably go … Continue reading
Hmm. Well it’s almost June, so let me take a look at my 2009 Goals to see how I’m doing! Personal Finance Goals: $5,000 in Emergency Fund. Well, I had to do a major raid of my EF due to the car crash, and it sits at $2,200+ right now. Not good. But on the plus side, my living situation has changed, and because $2,200 represents about 4 months of bare-bones living (or 2.5 months of normal living), I’m not overly concerned about having the entire $5k by the end of the year. Especially because my Savings Fund is housing … Continue reading
A ton of my friends are going to the Sasquatch Music Festival this weekend. I am totally jealous. 5 days enjoying great music and great friends, all while camping! I’d love to be going. But I couldn’t justify the cost, and I’m using up all of my vacation days this year. Besides, we’re moving all of my furniture from my old apartment tomorrow (not looking forward to it) … and the festival lineup doesn’t look as good as it did last year anyway. I’m mostly just jealous of the camping. I guess it’s just drive-in car camping, so it’s not … Continue reading
A few days ago, BF and I were browsing MLS.ca (bad idea). I wanted to see what we could afford in my hometown, since we’re thinking of moving there after we get back from traveling. Obviously we’re not going to become home owners anytime soon, but it was really interesting to see what kind of prices were out there. A couple of years ago when I was looking to buy, it wasn’t pretty. The market was at its highest and I just had my single income to deal with. Now, with the 2 of us and with the market down … Continue reading
So I’ve been commuting from my new place for the last few days. It takes me about 20-25 min. in the morning, and 35 min. or so after work. It’s not bad, but it’s still a long commute (compared to my 10 min. walk to and from work). I’m not used to being in a car during rush hour traffic. So frustrating sometimes! But overall, I think we’re both glad that we have the car to get us around. We can be a lot more productive – trips to the grocery store, Home Depot, the mall, rock climbing, etc. are … Continue reading
