Hmm. Well it’s almost June, so let me take a look at my 2009 Goals to see how I’m doing!
Personal Finance Goals:
- $5,000 in Emergency Fund. Well, I had to do a major raid of my EF due to the car crash, and it sits at $2,200+ right now. Not good. But on the plus side, my living situation has changed, and because $2,200 represents about 4 months of bare-bones living (or 2.5 months of normal living), I’m not overly concerned about having the entire $5k by the end of the year. Especially because my Savings Fund is housing money for any car repairs that I might need. As long as I have $5k in place by the time we go traveling next summer, I will be good to go.
- $10,000 in Travel Fund. I’m sitting at $3,650+ right now. But that amount also houses the money to pay for the Alaskan Cruise. We put down a deposit and my sister gave me her share of the total cost, so I’ll have to pay about $1,300 at the end of this month. That will bring my account down to about $2,350. There are 16 more pay periods left in 2009, so that means I’ll have to save on average $478 from each pay cheque. This is actually doable and around what I was anticipating. I’m contributing $300 bi-weekly right now, and might consider increasing it to $475-500. I’d love to have this goal accomplished so I can concentrate on increasing my other funds for 2010.
- $25,000 in RRSP Portfolio. This will happen by the 2009 RRSP contribution deadline at the end of February 2010. So technically the goal will be attained in 2010, but it counts towards 2009 so that’s not cheating, right?
- Stay debt-free. I have $2,900+ in debt due to my LASIK eye surgery, but no revolving debt. This will be paid off by the end of the year.
- Make an additional $5,000. So far, I’ve made $866.95 through my PT job and from this blog. I also made $1,830 selling some of my things, so does that count? If it does, then I’m up to $2,696.95. Which is just over half of what my goal is for the year.
Personal Goals
- Lose 10 lbs. I’m down to about 133-132 lbs from around 140 in January (I was 135 in December when I wrote these goals, but I guess I packed on some holiday weight!). Hoping to get to 125 lbs ideally.
- Climb 5.11 routes. I was straddling 5.9-5.10 at the beginning of the year, and now I’m doing 5.10a-c, and have attempted 5.11 routes (and have failed). But I’m seeing improvement. Now I need to practice and get stronger.
- Climb 4 mountains. We haven’t done any yet (May long weekend trip was canceled b/c there was too much stuff to do around the house). But we’ve both taken vacation days for 3 separate trips this year. All we need is a weekender trip and we’ll be good to go.
- Go on a trip with my sister. Last year we went to Coombs. The year before, Port Alberni. Not exactly exotic locations. But this year we’re going to Alaska on a 1-week cruise! Very excited. Next year we’re thinking of maybe going to Mexico, but nothing has been planned.
Anyway, there you have it. I feel confident that I can meet all of my goals this year (with the exception possibly of the $5k Emergency Fund). How are you doing with your 2009 goals?
