A few days ago, BF and I were browsing MLS.ca (bad idea). I wanted to see what we could afford in my hometown, since we’re thinking of moving there after we get back from traveling. Obviously we’re not going to become home owners anytime soon, but it was really interesting to see what kind of prices were out there.
A couple of years ago when I was looking to buy, it wasn’t pretty. The market was at its highest and I just had my single income to deal with. Now, with the 2 of us and with the market down a bit, things are looking a lot more affordable. We’d have a $40-50k down payment between the 2 of us, and for under $300k we could get a 2 or 3 bedroom condo in a desirable location, or a townhouse a little farther out of town. Not too shabby! And definitely a step up from the crap I was looking at when I first started this blog. :)
I don’t want to look too closely into the real estate market, because I’ll just get ridiculously anxious and want to buy immediately. I know my time will come, and I know it will probably be in the next 5 years.
