Last night I went for sushi with a good friend from my old job.
She lives in my new neighbourhood, so I let her pick the restaurant. It wasn’t expensive as far as sushi places go, but it certainly wasn’t cheap either. I decided to go super simple and ordered beef yakisoba and a spicy salmon roll. After tip, I paid $15. I couldn’t finish my yakisoba, so I didn’t really need the salmon roll. I’ll remember that for next time!
Usually with my friends, we just take turns paying … but I’ve never been a fan of doing that. I usually make a conscious effort to choose something relatively cheap on the menu. And I almost never buy a drink. Unless it’s a special occasion (like an anniversary or a birthday), then I don’t feel bad ordering something more expensive or having a drink or two. So for me personally I don’t think it’s fair to pay for more or less than I ordered.
Anyway I’m glad that my friend asked for separate bills, because her dinner after tip came out to over $30 because she ordered a large bottle of sake. I just stuck with a glass of water and free tea.
