The cost of the crash

Wow what a roller coaster of emotions over the past few days. Sad that BF is gone. Scared when I got lost driving to the ferry terminal. Happy to see my sister. Excited to start our road trip. Terrified when I crashed the car. Thankful for family. Lonely and anxious. Depressed. Stressed out. And now. Relieved.

For such a major car crash, this is the best possible scenario. Everyone is alive and well. No blood or broken bones. And thankfully, everything will be covered under BF’s insurance.

Here is what I am responsible for paying:

• $110 driving ticket (unlawful lane change)
• $500 deductible
• $400 (approx) insurance (that’s how much BF will have to pay extra on his insurance over the next 4 years combined)

TOTAL = $1,010

I was also really scared that this crash would impact whether or not we could go traveling – whether I’d have to pay for all the damages out-of-pocket, or if we have to stay in the province until the other woman finalizes her claim, etc. But the adjuster said that I would have nothing to worry about, and if it came down to it, a phone call would suffice, or they would just wait until we got back if it was something they needed us for.

Later today I should find out whether BF’s car is a write-off or not.

I am sure there are other expenses to pay along the way that I’m not taking into account. But thankfully I have my Emergency Fund to help me out with this one.
