Okay, so last night I went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic.
I didn’t have high expectations because I knew that the movie was nothing like the book. But still, I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed. The entire plot was different. It was NOTHING like the book, except for the character names and the fact that Rebecca liked to shop. I don’t want to say what the main plot differences were b/c I don’t want to spoil the movie for whoever hasn’t seen it. But prepared to say “that didn’t happen in the book!” a lot during the movie. :)
Isla Fisher was good in the lead role, but they could have found someone better. Maybe Amy Adams? Isla was a little too cute. Not what I pictured Becky to look like. And wasn’t Becky supposed to be blonde? Certainly not a red head. Although, Hugh Dancy as Luke Brandon? Yes, please! Gorgeous. He is so good looking I wanted to die a little.
The actress that played Suze (Krysten Ritter) was really annoying. Did not like her at all. But I hated Derek Smeath’s character the most. Oh, and I thought Tarquin was supposed to be … not ugly, but also not attractive. Right? Well in the movie, he’s pretty darn cute.
And what annoyed me the most was there didn’t seem to be enough of the debt aspect involved. She didn’t really seem to learn her lesson, and the entire movie just glorified shopping. And yeah, that’s a lot of the book too, but in the book I feel like Becky really really learned her lesson about getting into and out of debt. But in the movie, it felt really rushed.
I guess I was hoping the movie was a bit more serious. Not drama-serious, but comedy-serious. Does that make sense? The movie was way too fluffy and it just reminded me of Legally Blonde. And while I actually really like Legally Blonde, that’s not what I was looking for with this movie.
Anyway, I saw the movie for free, but I probably would have paid the $12 to see it. It’s not good, but it’s not bad either.
