2009 Goals

I saw that Wellheeled had posted her 2009 goals already, so I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and do the same.

Personal Finance Goals:

  • $5,000 in Emergency Fund.
  • $10,000 in Travel Fund. This is doable, but it’ll be hard. My original goal was to have $10k by the time we leave (around July 2010) … but I really want to have a Travel EF and buy a few pricey things (new laptop, camera, clothing, shoes, etc) … so in order to accomplish this, I’ll need to have $10k in place a lot earlier.
  • $25,000 in RRSP Portfolio. Going into 2009, my portfolio should be sitting at around $20-21k, depending on how the market goes. I’d like to contribute more to get to $30k, but at this point in my life, my retirement fund isn’t my priority. I think I’m young enough to make up for it once I get back from traveling.
  • Stay debt-free. This is just a given.
  • Make an additional $5,000 above and beyond my regular FT job. This will be obtained through PT jobs, contracts, bonuses, PPP, mystery shopping, etc. This is going to be difficult, but I’m up for it.

Personal Goals

  • Lose 10 lbs. I’m always trying to lose 10 lbs, but this time I mean it. I’ve been stuck at 135 lbs for a long time, and my ideal weight is 125 lbs. The only downfall is that would probably take me down to a Size 2.
  • Climb 5.11 routes. I’m straddling 5.9-5.10 right now.
  • Climb 4 mountains.
  • Go on a trip with my sister. Every year we try to do a Sister Trip. This year we went to Coombs. The year before, we went to Port Alberni. Not exactly exotic locations, but we always have a lot of fun.

  1. [...] Okay, so the book value of my RRSPs are sitting at $24,440. The market value is $23,350. That’s not a good sign. I think that being out only $1,090 in this kind of market means that my portfolio has been way too conservative. I’ve done a lot to re-allocate my funds over the past month and I think I’ve got a good balance now. But that’s a whole other story. Right now, I want to focus on what I’m going to do when I hit my $25k RRSP goal for the year. [...]
