Wow. I went crazy with the text messaging this month. I have 125 sent text messages included in my plan, but my text-happy fingers sent an additional 93 messages. This amounted to an overage charge of $13.95. Yikes! I probably shouldn’t have been text messaging my sister play-by-play updates on the hockey games I was watching.
I also had $7.10 in long distance charges. None of this was from making LD calls – it was from receiving calls outside of my area code. And for those of you who suggested I get a LD plan on my cell phone – I already have a Corporate LD plan attached to my plan, which gives me 10 cents/min. throughout North America. Without it, I think LD is 20 or 25 cents/min. Anyway, the only way to avoid these charges is to 1) not pick up my phone and then call the person right back (I don’t get charged if I make local calls), or 2) change my phone number to a local number.
I’ve thought about this a lot, and I want to keep my current number for now. Everyone has it, and it’s a HUGE pain to have everyone update my number … and until I make new friends here in Vancouver, I don’t really have anyone calling me except for BF. And usually when he calls, we talk for less than a minute, or I don’t answer it and call him right back. Plus, it’s so convenient to have a local number when I go back home, because all my friends can call me whenever they want.
