Buying birthday presents

I know BF’s birthday is a long time away (June), and I really should be focusing on my sister’s birthday which is next month, but last night I stumbled upon the perfect gift. So I bought it. It wasn’t that expensive, and combined with the other part of his present that I plan on getting, this is actually going to be well under budget for what I had expected. I’m satisfied. :) I’m busting to tell you what I got, but well … I guess it’ll have to wait until June. Speaking of my sister’s birthday, I’m stumped. I was … Continue reading

Money & Relationships

Today after work BF and I are going out for dinner downtown with a bunch of his friends. I’m excited to go, but at the same time, I can’t help but wonder if I should really be going. I mean, I don’t exactly have any flex in my budget this month. What with the moving expenses and getting set up in my new place, I’m already massively over budget. I told him how I felt, and he is insisting on treating me to dinner. Which makes me feel even worse. It’s not like I’m poor, but it brings up an … Continue reading

Alright, let’s make this February-March Lunch Challenge official. If you would like to join me in my challenge to not spend any money on lunch/snacks/coffee/tea during work days from now until March 31st, please leave a comment. Also, if you could indicate whether you’re starting with me NOW, or on March 1st, that would be great! :) Every Friday I’ll post a little review of the week to see how I’ve done, and it would be awesome if you’d also leave a comment on your blog, or in my blog with how you’re doing! P.S. if someone else takes you … Continue reading

The Lunch Challenge

So I’ve decided to challenge myself to not only brown bag my lunch every single day from now until March 31st, but to also refrain from buying coffee or tea or any other sort of snack during the work day. It’s so tempting to just be lazy and go to the building next door and eat at their delicious cafeteria (really, the food is pretty good), or to walk a few blocks to the nearest Starbucks. But that’s not going to happen anymore. I need to start seriously saving money and watching every dollar. So from 9-5pm, Monday-Friday until March … Continue reading

I won’t hit my grocery budget for February

Yesterday I went grocery shopping at Safeway and spent $40.49. It was a little more expensive than usual for a week’s worth of groceries, but I stocked up with 7 cans of tuna ($1 each), and a ball of mozzarella for $4.49 … so when you consider that, I did better than normal. I have a lot of food left over from last week, including a lot of fresh fruit. I have a freezer full of breads and frozen veggies, and my fridge has tofu, chicken substitute, and veggie burgers. I have one more grocery trip before the month is … Continue reading
